hi evryone, i would like to know if it's normal for dog to have a slight smelly sweat coming from their paws. i know that dog sweat through their paws, but does it usally have a smell or not at all? i would think there would be a smell b/c when we sweat we smell too, some are more than others.

p.s. the sweat remind me of cheese puff :) i guess it's time for a bath.

Ahhhh... the age old question!

From a vet:
http://www.montereyherald.com/mld/montereyherald/living/16000089.htm

"You may notice that your dog's scent is more noticeable near the footpads, by the ears or around her rear end. Dogs are normally smellier in these places.

Dogs have another type of "sweat glands" called eccrine glands on their footpads and nose that keep these rough areas moist. The secretion from these eccrine glands, combined with bacteria that normally live on the surface of the pads, both contribute to the typical odor of dogs' paws. This smell reminds me of Cheese Puffs and shouldn't be particularly offensive."

Tuckie's paws smell like a combination of toast and popcorn. It's fairly strong (but not unpleasant) when he wakes up in the morning, since he's been curled in a ball and covered up. I never knew what it was until now. After reading what has been posted I decided to smell his paws. I guess I'm lucky, it could be worse than popcorn, it could be cheese popcorn!
