Default Baby teeth should come out when?

It's been awhile since I posted. Sadie Belle and Shiloh are both doing well. Sadie is now 5 pounds and Shiloh is 4 pounds. They are both happy and healthy. Shiloh's baby teeth all fell out when she was about 6 months old or so. Her adult teeth are all in as far as I know. She eats the dry dog food easily and maintains her weight with ease.

Sadie on the other hand seems to have a small problem. It appears that most of her baby teeth came out when she was around 5 to 6 months old. She still has her baby canines (top side) right behind the adult canines. They are not loose and are sharp! There is very little space between the adult and baby canines. She actually weighed about 5.5 lbs 7 weeks ago. She has lost .5 lbs since then and is picking at her food. She seems to have difficulty eating her dry food. She will eat it, but sparingly. She does seem full of energy. Her eyes are bright and she eliminates properly though she seems to only have 1 or 2 movements a day.

I took her to the vet last week. The vet said we should wait another 2 months before doing anything. He suggested I supplement her with wet food at least once a day to make sure she is getting proper nutrition since she is being so picky. I have done that (using Merrick Chicken pot pie). I think I have stopped her weight loss and she is holding at 5 lbs. She absolutely refuses to chew on anything hard such as chew bones or a biscuit. She still likes her yogurt drops.

Here's my question - Should I wait 2 months or should I pursue having those 2 baby teeth pulled? Sadie seems to be uncomfortable. I wouldn't say she is in pain - just uncomfortable. Any suggestions?

If they seem to be bothering her, I'd get them done sooner. BUT are you going to be getting her fixed? If so, try and do both at the same time so she doesn't have to but put under anesthesia twice. The weight loss would be a concern to me as well. .5 lbs in these little guys is alot.

I had both girls fixed at 6 or so months. You would have thought that nothing happened to either girl. They were each up playing within 12 hours and acting like nothing happened. I had to keep them crated for another day just to keep them still.

The vet was concerned about the weight loss which is why he suggested the wet food to keep her nutrition up and slow/stop the weight loss. I only replace one meal a day with the wet food. I'm not a big fan of canned food. Everything about Sadie seems healthy except for her teeth. Her coat is shiny (the sable portion positively sparkles). She just doesn't eat much. Being a deer head, she is long and lanky so she always looks skinny but you can tell she has lost weight.

I'm thinking about taking her in later this month and having the teeth taken out. If they begin to loosen on their own, I might wait but they are showing no signs of loosening.

It's so nice to hear from you! I'd love to see pics of the girls
Jack had his retained canines pulled last month. He did great! He was eating his regular food the next day I personally would have them go ahead and pull them. He was only asleep from the nitrous for about 5 minutes. It was a very quick and simple procedure and it would be bring her some much wanted relief. If it wasn't effecting her than I would say wait but because they're obviously bothering her I think it would be the right thing to do. Let us know what you decide!
