Default Pet Insurance

After just having a big scare with Trixie and having to pay a 2000.00 vet bill i just recently purchased pet insurance. Im just wondering if anyone here uses pet insurance and has it actually paid off when an illness or emergency has arisen? Thanks

I have pet insurance on Corky through VPI and it is about $30 mo for the the full coverage plan with routine care and the cancer coverage. It has helped with routine things and really the only reason I keep it at this point is because he almost had a luxating patella last spring. The insurance would not cover that surgery within the first 12 months. Luckily he has healed up on his own but he is now past that 12 months so if he reinjures it and it requires surgery, it would be covered. He was sick and accident proned the first 6 months we had him and that is why we got it but he rarely visits the vet now except for routine care (knock on wood). Like I said, I mainly keep it for him in case he has a luxating patella. I don't have insurance on Lizzy and unless things change, I probably wont....

Thanks...I also purchased the VPI Insurance but I did not get the routine extended care. I wasnt sure if it would pay off. It was a little difficult trying to figure all that out from the website. If you dont mind me asking, how is the payout for vaccines and routine care? I believe that i can add this if I want to. I think right now I am paying 23.00 a month.

I have pet insurance for Yoshi, and it covers absolutely anything that could possibly happen to her. I felt so much better after I signed up for it. I haven't had to use it yet (and hopefully never will), but it is statistically proven that you are more than a thousand times more likely to file a claim on your pet insurance than you are on car, homeowner, etc. combined ^_^

Wow!...I had no idea about that! Almost seems silly that I have car & house insurance but none for my doggies!

I've been really thinking about getting pet insurance on my 3 lately though. After spending $70 twice for Sammie's eye (Stewie bit her!) & then $70 on Gracie's eye (from Sammie biting her!), I'm really thinking it might be a good idea! Do you just send them your receipts from the vets & they refund you or is it like health insurance where you just take a card into your vet & they charge the insurance company?

I'm not really sure if it's done with direct billing. Maybe some vets have direct billing, but I imagine others do not. I think with mine, we pay, file a claim, and they reimburse.

i have pet insurance i got it as soon as i got him bcuz i was scared he was gonna get stolen around my area!! i pay 9 a month and that covers absolutly everyfin. I had to make a claim not that long ago wen i rushed him to the vets wen his face swelled up, the bill was 130 i had to pay it but then got 80 back within about a month. was very easy prosess, just rang up this number pressed 1 for a claims form filled it out then took it to the vets and they did the rest. I had to pay 50 excess but thats better than 130, im with Argos btw!!!

From what I read with VPI you can send it in or you can have the vet send it in.....Like Krista said, Im sure some vets prefer to paid and then you need to send it in. I filled out the forms and paid online last week, so Im still waiting for everything. I believe I then have to wait 14 days before being able to use it. After this last vet hospital bill, I will feel a lot better knowing that I have this to fall back on in case of illness or injury!!
