Default staying home alone :(

My boyfriend and i will be away for three days to California this week and my dad is taking care of Tofu for us, but i'm very worry about Tofu staying home by himself for 9-10hrs each day. My dad has to work and can't come home during lunch. i has an exercise pen for him. inside the exercise pen are his food, water, pee pee pad and his comfy, warm crate(bed). the door to the crate is always open so he can come in and out whenever he want. but the door for the exercise pen is close whenever he's in there when i'm not home. sorry for going on and on about this but i just would like everyone to picture it my concern is that is is ok for him to stay home by himself that long with out anyone there? and if anyone ever done that before? i know that he sleep most of the time when i put him in there. just thinking about leaving him make me so worry. i know that he's home with my dad, but i still worry. i just worry that he don't know Tofu as much as i do. i miss him already, and worry if he'll miss me because i'm not there. i don't want to go at all but i have to. four days to me seem forever. everyday for the past week i told my dad what i normally do for tofu. like alway have water and food out for him. not to give too much treats b/c he won't eat his food. which treat to give at what time. what to do when he look fatique, how may minutes are need to heat his heating pad... etc. sorry for rampling, but i'm so worry about leaving him.

I wouldn't worry about it. Of course, he's going to miss you but he'll make it just fine. Lots of dogs stay home alone while their owners are at work (mine does) and althought it's not the ideal thing, dogs can adjust to it just fine, and some breeds do better at it than others, like Chihuahuas, because they are small and are not as active as working breeds, like terriers or shepards, for example. Plus, it's a good thing you are getting him used to you being away while he is young (he is, isn't he?), because chances are you are going to need to be away sometimes, for good reasons, like vacations or others. So don't worry, he'll be just fine.

i'm feeling a little better about him staying home alone. I'm sure going to call home everyday to check on him.

Your baby will be just fine. I think you're absolutely right in that most of the time we tend to over-worry. My baby stays home by herself Mon. through Fri. for about 9-10 hours, and then I stay home with her over the weekend, but she is just fine. So don't feel bad. Hope you have a great trip.

OMG I hated leaving Murray alone when we went on a cruise for a week. I called home everyday from my cell to check up on him. I think it is harder on us than it is for them..haha. I was so worried and missed him terribly. A part of me even felt guilty for leaving him. I had a million thoughts going through my head, will he miss me? Will he hate me for leaving him for so long? Will he remember me? ha ha ha. I was a total basketcase on that vacation. Now that I got him a companion, I guess I won't feel as bad if I ever go on vacation like that again.

Dogs actually don't have the same sense of time that we do so they don't really realize how long 9 - 10 hours actually is. As long as he has access to everything he needs, he will be fine. My dogs stay home alone for at least a few hours every day and always have. They never seem to mind too much.
