Default Murray always tired :(

When I took Murray for his annual shots about a month ago, the doctor informed me that Murray has a heart murmur and to just make sure he doesn't get too tired and overworked. Murray is 5 years old. Well hubby had already purchased, Bella just a month before this. Bella is only 4 months and super hyper. She jumps all over him and is constantly wanting to play with him. Sometimes I see it in his face that he doesn't really want to play with her but he just gives in. Sometimes we have to pick him up just to get Bella to leave him alone. If we don't, she'll jump all over him and play fight all day long. My concern is sometimes he gets very tired because of her. He's always panting hard and never wants to play anymore with me. He just seems tired all the time or depressed. I'm not sure if it's the heart murmur, or if he's depressed because we got her and now she gets a lot our attention too, or if it's a combination of both. I'll pick him up and kiss him all the time, but he doesn't ever want to play with me anymore. He use to love to play fetch or roll around with his toys, but he can't really do that now with Bella around. When she's sleeping, hubby and I try to play with him and get his toys out but he's not interested. I don't know...guess I just feel bad for him because he just seems tired and sad all the time now.

Hubby and I have purchased all sorts of different toys for Bella so she doesn't get bored-- but she still does. Any suggestions?

Have you tried bones (or some sort of chewing thing)? Gracie is pretty hyper also & is always wanting to play with Stewie & Sammie who aren't always interested. I got the dogs some bones for Christmas though & she's barely let that bone get out of her sight! She gets bored with toys too & would much rather pounce on one of the other dogs. Or maybe try taking her for a walk. It might help burn some of her extra energy, then either you or your hubby could stay home with Murray & give him some extra one-on-one attention while the other is walking Bella. I wish I had more/better advice for you! I know how hard it is to keep a puppy from being obnoxious to the older dogs!

Awww poor thing. The bones work for Ace too. Zoe and Chi Chi get tired of playing with him, so they will take a nap. A bone ALWAYS keeps him occupied. Good luck!

I would give your older chi plenty of time away from your puppy. Have some special place for just him to go.

Yes I've tried the bones. She has all sorts of chew toys and she loves them. Sometimes, I'll get her attention away from Murray and stick a bone in her mouth and it will occupy her for about 10 minutes, sometimes longer... and then she's off jumping all over him again. I really do need to try the walk thing. She's just so into him and whines whenever he's not around. I know if I take her for a walk and not him, she'll be crying. She won't even go outside to potty unless he goes out there too, even if he doesn't need to go. He'll just go out there so she will. There really isn't anywhere I can take Murray alone without her interfering. If I try to take him to another room, she'll cry and scratch on the door until I open it. LOL--I put her in the kitchen with a child proof gate up last night so I could play with Murray, and she whined and kept trying to jump over it so long, that eventually she jumped over it! I could not believe it. She's just a big BRAT ..HA. That's the only way I can explain it... but I love them both so much, I know there's gotta be something we can work out.

I understand it is hard to listen to her whining and fussing.
Sometimes you have to make exceptions to their happiness for their own good. If your boy has health issues, it is your responsibility to do what you can to help him too. The puppy will get used to it eventually and stop whining. You really should get into the habbit of taking her for walks to tire her out so she won't bother him so much.

Oh I'm definitely going to watch over him! I will do whatever I have to do. Murray is my baby and if Bella has to learn the hard way, then so be it. I just needed some suggestions or wondered if anyone else had experienced this. I appreciate all your replies, thanks! =)

I would try to endure her whines for a while (probably in a room with a door she can't climb over! ) Since she's only 4 months old now, she'll learn quickly that she just has to get over it (well, hopefully anyways!) It *should* get better in a few months or so. Gracie has amazingly calmed down at least somewhat since she was 4 months old. She's definitely not calm, but not quite as ADD like! You could maybe try taking both of them for a walk together. If Bella is anything like Gracie, she'll walk or triple the amount just by running around in circles! Might be enough to wear her out some without tiring out Murray.
