Question Worried about Jinxy

Well, Jinxy's boobies are swollen and I'm really worried. I know she’s a little bit 'fat', my vet told me so, but I don't know if there's any relation to this. She's 4, 5 lb at 10 months. I know this doesn't say anything.
She looks like a 'cow', excuse my description, but I don't know how to explain it, you know her breasts hanging. She's cheerful and happy, plays etc. She's been like this for a week now. I want to take her to the vet tomorrow. Do you think it's something serious? Please tell me what you think.

If the vet is telling you that your baby is overweight, have you thought about putting her on a special diet to help her lose or maybe just maintain that weight? I know there are alot of dog food brands out there that formulated specifically for that. As for the swollen breasts, I'm not sure what to tell you, but I would consider a visit to the vet. Has she been spayed? The only think I could think of is that she might be pregnant, but I'm really not even sure if a dog's breasts get swollen when they're pregnant. This is a total guess. Good luck, and keep us posted! =)

She is on a special diet and she's definitely not pregnant. I'm afraid she's not spayed. I wanted to get her spayed, but my vet said he wouldn't risk it. He thought she wouldn't make through, so we didn't proceed.
I wonder if it's hormonal.

Chloe, you might be right. It will be her first time though. Is it normal?

It is normal. Also another possibility could be a phantom pregnancy. They aren't really pregnant but their bodies go through changes that make them feel like they are. Not sure when that would start, being as this is her first heat, but it could be possible.

I don't think she's overweight at all.

I had a poodle years and years ago that had a "phantom pregnancy" too. She looked just like she was expecting, but of course, wasn't. That's weird how that happens! Jinxy could be coming into heat, though. My daughter has a golden retreiver that was like that when she came into heat her first time.

As long as she hasn't been around any male dogs then it's probably a normal thing. I would google "dog heats" and "phantom pregnancies" and read some information about it. Her symptoms will probably match one of those.
