Default cats and dogs?

My daughter may be moving in with us from across the country, and she will be bringing 2 cats. Max, my older chi is used to cats and likes them (he was raised with another daughters' cat years ago when she was younger.) But Pedro, my younger chi has never been around cats, and when he sees one through the window or a fence, he goes bonkers! He obviously doesn't like them. Does anyone have an idea on how to introduce Pedro to them and hopefully can live with them peacefully while she is living with us for a few months?

You are going to have to have absolute control over Pedro. When you say sit, he sits. When you say come, he comes. When you say leave it, he leaves it.
Even with all his training, the cats may not like the dogs and can cause the problems.
I have 3 chis and 2 cats. One chi absolutly loves the cats, the other 2 chis cautiously respect the cats. One cat loves the chis and the other cat tolerates the chi that loves the cats for short periods of time, but doesn't really want to be bothered and has no problem letting the chi know it.
I never go out and leave them all together, the cats get shut in my room. Even when I'm home I watch them when the cats are around.
You will probably be able to train your chi to be tolerant with the cats, it's the cats that may be the problem if they've never been around dogs.

Start by making the chi sit and stay when the cats are around.

I had to chuckle about this one. My chi, Trixie, has a real problem with cats. When we visit our daughter in Ill, we of course take Trixie with us. My daughter has 3 dogs and 2 cats. Her dogs never bothered the cats until........Trixie. She has a little Yorkie that Trixie plays with and taught to chase the cats. lol. He never bothered with them before but he sure does now. We are getting close to our yearly visit with her again. Now I have a parakeet, I told my daughter I was bringing my bird. She said "oh great Mom, I can see it now, my cats after the bird and the dogs after the cats, and the rest of us going crazy." We are not taking the bird, but had to tease her. lol My little grandaughter will keep and take care of Tweetie. Hopefully you will not have the same excitement when your daughter comes to stay with you. I don't think that there is anyway you can tell what will happen until they are all there. Good Luck Oh I have a sheltie we take with also, she could care less about the cats.

Be sure you trim the cats' nails. You don't want one of those little sharp things catching an eye.
