Default any ideas to help a cough?

My new little guy, Lipton, who is 13 weeks old has a bad cough. It started out as the dry "honking" cough but then turned into a wet sounding cough, some weezing, and also honking. The vet put him on antibiotics last Wednesday, said it was Kennel Cough, but he has not really improved. Although he will go hours without coughing much at all. He has been waking up in the middle of the night coughing.

He goes back to the vet tomorrow afternoon since he has not really improved. I bought honey today and gave him a little lick for his throat. I've also taken his crate into the bathroom with me while I get a shower so that he gets the steamed air.

Other than the cough, he is playing and eating normally. Even when he's playing hard, he doesn't seem to cough then. It's mostly when he is laying down or resting.

Does anyone have any ideas about what else I can do for him? Thanks so much! I'v only had Lipton for 11 days now!

theres not much you can do, kenne cugh can take weeks to improve and clear up completly...just keep doing what you are doing, during your shower if you can get some eukalyptus oil and put a few drops in to a bowl of hot water the heat and steam will acrry it through to him and is good for healing (and the chest) itll be good for you too!

It really is a matter of time. My vet said they sound worse than they feel, and it's harder on you than on them...which is probably true since he is eating and playing. Still, it's hard. I hated it when Dolly had it. It will be over soon though, just hang in there!

My heart goes out to you and Lipton. Charlie had that cough and it broke my heart... The vet gave my some white liquid antibiotics. I gave him some in the morning and at night. It began to fade away....
Hang in there. I know what you're going thru. right now.

nate had kennel cough as well and it definitely did not slow him down! he sounded terrible but was as active as ever. i don't know what you are using to walk him but i recommend him not wearing a collar and using a harness. i remember it took a while for nate's to clear as well so i know the feeling! on top of kennel cough he had giardia at the same time so he was coughing like crazy at one end and .... at the other. it was rough! i wish you the best and hope lipton feels better soon! nate sends doggie kisses!

Hi! Thanks for your good thoughts! Lipton has finished his antibiotics, but is still coughing. He is still active as usual, no slowing him down! He just looks so sad when he coughs. I only have a bell collar on him. It is too cold to go on walks here in PA! But I wonder if this cough could be due to the climate change for him. He was born in Texas! Also I wonder how much of this coughing is considered a "normal" amount for chi's and when is it considered kennel cough? I have read about something called KC Defense on the internet to give your dogs to prevent and to help kennel cough. Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it?

Lipton is finished with his antibiotics but is still coughing pretty often, especially during the night. But other than the cough he is active and playing normally. Since a cough in chi's is somewhat common, how frequent of a cough is considered normal and when is it considered Kennel Cough?
Also, I read about something called KC Defense online. Something you can give you dog to help with Kennel Cough. Supposedly it works very well. Has anyone heard of this or tried it?
