Default is it okay to paint in the same room as chi?

I was just wondering if the chemicals in paint is harmful to them. I dont mean the paint that's on your walls but rather the acrylic ones because I do love to paint and I haven't done so in a while. Of course he's not going to be anywhere close to digesting it.

Acrylics are water based so I wouldn't worry too much about fumes etc, but injestion would be your main concern. I personally would never have the dogs in the same room if I'm using oils or ceramic/enamel paint just due to the fumes, they can make me woozy enough let alone the dogs, Also injestion could be leathal as with any substance especially with the additional mediums used in oil painting and some pigments are toxic anyway (of course we're talking Artists quality pigments). I'd generally see it as common sense if it makes you cough to use it then it can't be good for your dogs to inhale either.

As a personal choice I make sure my dogs are never in the room when I paint I personally don't like to risk it with them.

I think if its not really toxic they should be okay, I love to paint too, I leave a window open or put the extractor fan on (or both) then its good for me and the dog! If you are not in a confined space then I dont see any harm, if its not really toxic,
like *sarah* says if it knocks you back then maybe not to use it round animals!!

What do you paint pigeonsheep? and baileysmommy do you have ur stuff to sell on the site? id like to see some pics xx

The paints I use don't give off any smell or vapors. I use water based acrylic stains.

I have never needed to open a window, gotten a headache or a vapor buzz off of them. When I paint he is happily playing on the floor or with his daddy. He doesn't even show that he is interested in the smell (he doesn't turn his nose towards them and smell).

I will try and get some pics of the things I have done in the past (that I've made for myself) I do have a few orders that I have to fill before Christmas, I will try and get a pic of them as well.

I don't have a site, I just have repeat customers and word of mouth. If anyone is interested in my work (after pics are posted) I would be willing to make some things! Keep in mind, a lot of the molds that I have painted for myself I may not be able to find. My favorite ceramic store closed down, so now I have to drive an hour to the next one, she doesn't have as great of a selection as I would like. lol

yeah same here I never opened a window, the smell never bothered me as well...just sometimes trying to paint something nice gave me the real headache
BaileysMommy: i hope you post up some pictures soon, it seems like a really cool hobby and if people are requesting for it...must be some peice of art!

PinkGlitteryBunny: I'm uploading pictures on my site as we speak, will post soon. Actually would this be considered off topic? I'll make another thread in the off topics section when it's complete.

Sarah: oil painting is crazy! i have yet to enjoy doing those, so messy ^^ What do you paint?
