Default Introducing another chi to Rocky?

How do you go about introducing another chi into the household. Being the only chi in the house for over a year how would he take to it?

My OH is really worried it just wouldn't work etc etc and Rocky would hate another chi?

Its really putting him off getting another one but I was trying to say that on the forum there is very few of us with only 1 chi? Most of you guys have 3,4,5............!

Any advice for me??

Would the need to be keep apart during the day when im out?

Im asking because there is a chi pup ive been emailed pics of her and im keen!!!!!! LOL!

obviously they can react differently but they should be fine it takes a little while for them to get used to each other - i had Twig on her own for nearly 3 years when i got Bentley and shes fine, she got over it in about 2 days - they would be fine to be left together after a while i still keep mine seperate (but in the same room) when i go out cuz i think B would be into everything if he wasnt in his puppy pen so more for his own saftey

does he like/has he met any other chis or small dogs?

sooo pics, details?

All i can say is my Sheltie is over 12,when i got Lily i held her in my arms for him to sniff, then made a fuss of him,he accepted her straight away ,there is a bit of jealousy sometimes.I would keep them apart when you are away from them, then you will know when the time is right after watching them together, and how they get on. I would always have more than one, they are soooo funny together. The cat took 2 weeks to come round with the new pup,now they are the best of friends and play together all the time

A wee girl 11 weeks old smoothcoat, looks very much like Rocky, same markings.
I was hoping they could be left in the same room as Rocky is trained to use the litter tray and I would train her to use the same.
I could take him down to meet her??
He is very dog friendly, he was playing with a wee Yorkie on the beach the other week.

Sounds like Rocky should be fine with a chi pup addition. He's still very young yet too. If you are very concerned, which from what you've said about Rocky already I wouldn't be, but if you are still worried you could take something with Rocky's scent on it and let your pup get familiar with the scent and likewise bring something home with the puppy's scent on it for Rocky to get accustomed to her scent as well before they "move in together". When they meet for the first time having the first meeting on neutral territory can also help with the transition. It really sounds as though they will be able to hit it off and none of this will really be necessary. Congratulations by the way!

I kept Emma in a playpen away from my others until she got of a good age where she could fend for herself and now that she is going on 6mos old I just introduced her to sleeping in with my other 2 dogs but I know Emma and Sally would have been fine together but not my shihtzu, that is why I had to wait until Emma got bigger because my shihtzu is food agressive and even Sally stands up to my shihtzu but Emma wouldn't ever, she would just run LOL and starve!

You know your own dogs personality better than us but I just recommend until the little girl is older that you then can keep them together but really it is your judge being you know Rockys temperment.

If he's anything like Brody, it will be keeping them apart that you will worry about!! When I go to visit my mom or sister, he is stuck like glue to their papillons and won't leave them alone. He LOVES other dogs. To the point of being a total pest. I'm sure Rocky will be much better behaved!! Lucky you to be getting another.

jamoka was alone for 8months before i got Jemini and he did fine but he did go threw a mini depression.

Mainly because he wasn't mommies only baby, but he got over it .

When i would show her love i'd show him the same love so he woudn't think that a new pup ment he was being pushed away.

Now with the nummbers i have now , i kinda just put the new pup in a xpen and let the others smell and when i'm holding them they can smell and interact with them.

I watch them like a hawk while they are walking around playing , i watch my older guys body movements and face expressions for any signs of attack

so you just have to know your chi and watch out

good luck any pics?
