Unhappy Separation Anxiety?

I have had Chico for about 2 months now, he was fine at first, but now whenever he goes in his crate he has a mental breakdown, it is getting worse and worse every day. I have no clue what to do. I have tried leaving him in there for a few minutes at a time and coming back, putting a heating pad in there, putting a shirt of mine in there, giving him treats when he is in there, feeding him in there. Nothing works. He won't touch treats when he is in there, not even his Kong stuffed with treats and sealed with peanut butter. I've tried feeding him dry food mixed with canned, which he never gets otherwise, he always eats only dry, he won't touch it. He howls, barks, whines, and just goes crazy. I ignore him, he will keep at it all night. I can't get another dog, he already Harley (the rottweiler mix) so its not like he is completely alone. Any one have any other suggestions that they have tried. I feel so bad for him listening to him whine, but I know I have to ignore him. He won't even go outside by himself without whining.

I wish I could help you out but I have the same problem with Cabo. Even if I have to step outside for a brief minute and I leave him out of his crate he freaks out and starts barking and crying and jumping at the door. When he does that Kina starts barking at him, kind of like she's telling him to be quiet. And then, of course, Coco joins in on the fun!

He's not in his crate very often. Just when I leave the house. Thankfully none of my neighbors have complained, but our houses aren't really close to each other and I never leave the windows open when I leave.

Hopefully somebody will have some ideas that may help.

I think you need to just go back to leaving him alone for a few minutes. Maybe start off with 30 seconds. Before you try this I'd suggest taking him for a long walk so he burns off some of his energy first and is ready to go to sleep. Put him in there, dont say anything, dont make eye contact, then hide from him, wait 30 seconds, come back and tell him to sit, then open the crate, praise him lots (but be calm, not high pitched noises), give him a small treat, then increase by 10 or 20 seconds. Usually you'd do it for a few minutes but if he's really anxious then you probably need to start off with very short periods on time.
This wont be done in one session, it probably will take a few weeks.

Is this when you put him to bed or when you leave the house? Have you tried leaving the radio or tv on?

You could also try a puppy obedience class, this will show him that you are boss and when you leave the house or leave him in his crate that its ok.

Good luck x

I've just found this site:

http://www.barkingupthewrongtree.co....anxiety-6.html

Go down to Desensitisation Techniques and Inside the house. These are very good. I didnt want to just cut and paste the info as its not my own.
