Default Vacinations

Hi All

Both puppies I am getting (yes I decided to get two lol) do not come vacinated. Now after doing a search on the forum and online some people suggest getting smaller dogs injected at 10-12 weeks rather than the 8 weeks. My question is when did you get your dogs done (if not done by the breeder) and will both puppies be ok to wait for their injections? Millie is fully vacinated and they wont be meeting any other dogs or going outside...

All my puppies get vaccines at 9 and a half to 10 weeks old. Breeders mainly wait because of their small size, vaccines can be harsh at 8 weeks on toy breed puppies. Don't confuse vaccinations with de-wormings, I do start de-wormings at around 7-8 weeks and they should have no problems on small dogs. Also make sure to get your vaccinations from a vet, do not buy your shots online! Alot of people do this to save money (I'm not saying you will) and have problems.

Tango had all of his vaccinations when I rescued him at 7 months. But with his yearly shots, the Vet doesn't give them all at once. He's so small (3.9 lbs) that she prefers to space them out. She gives them in two batches, a month apart.

Jazz is still getting her puppy shots. She's a rescue too. I was told she was on her third round of puppy shots when I rescued her at 11 weeks, but there was no paperwork. My vet took that with a grain of salt! And has spaced her shots over the last month. She'll go in for her last round in two more weeks, when she'll be 18 weeks old.

I just reread your post, and I don't think any of what I said was particularly responsive to your concerns........sorry!

My boy was 10 weeks old when he had his first vaccination and he didn't make any fuss at all.

I had KiKi's vaccs done at 10 weeks like my breeder advised as she herself had one of her dogs react to a vacc done at 8 weeks and I just didnt want to risk it just for the sake of going for a walk a few weeks early! (obviously there are other reasons too).
Some people do it at 8 weeks, some wait, I think its down to how you feel about it.
I dont see why both puppies wouldnt be ok to wait. The only thing I would advise is even though Millie is fully vaccinated, she can still be a carrier of germs/viruses so when she comes in from a walk or especially meeting other dogs, makes sure you just give her a wipe over with something (maybe sensitive, non-scented baby wipes?).
