Default What is the best dog food for my boy?

Ok..So! We have tried a total of three dog foods.

1: Chef Micheals (He really likes this kind because it has the same texture as meat but he won't eat the green or orange pieces so the bag only lasts 1 week..)

2: Ol' roys (I am NOT giving this to him anymore! We ran out of dog food so we gave him this to munch on..a few days later he was crying when he had to poop. I threw this stuff out to the birds..)

3: Kibbles and bits (He REALLY loves this stuff, but my Mom's dog is on it..and well..is very very over weight. I read up on it and it apparently isn't too healthy..)

I'm going shopping this after noon. I need to know what is good and affordable (college student with 30 bucks left in her bank account.) I'm pawning off some jewlry and a game system to get my boy some food ): I want him to be healthy...but I need to know what I can get him that is nutricious and yummy.

since money is tight, try Natural Balance Duck and Potato. It's a few steps up from what you have been feeding and won't break the bank.

Bella weighs 5 pounds and eats 1/3 cup daily Wellness Core (she is active, athletic, and burns off the calories). It takes her about 2 months to finish a 4 pound bag. Bella loves this food (it is yummy). When Lina lived with us, she loved Wellness Core too.

Wellness Core is an excellent dog food; it's high protein, grainless, low carb. It's rated 6 stars on this website: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ Look for a dog food that is rated 6 stars first but no less than 5 stars, one that your chi would eat and that works well with him too.

Wellness is on sale this week at Petco for $5 off if you sign up or carry their Petco Pals card (this is a preferred customer card - no special requirement needed). It regularly costs $13.99 for a 4 pound bag. I'll cost you $8.99 on sale for a 4 pound bag of Wellness Core - not bad for a student budget.

All my dogs are on Diamond Natural. It is very affordable. I paid about $30 for a 50 lb bag. Lilo eats about 2/3 cup daily. I think she will eventually go down to about 1/2 cup a day but she was quite skinny when I got her so she is working on gaining a little weight. She is also super active in that she plays with and keeps up with 3 border collies all day. Her coat is shiny and her poop is nice and firm.

Do you have any farm or feed stores near you? There's a really good food called "Dog food for the dog lovers soul" and it's really good. I know, it has a really stupid name. But Diamond makes it and it's pretty highly rated. The first few ingredients are all meat and it doesn't have a bunch of fillers in it.
