Question She's finally here!!! Along with more ??? (LONG)

My baby is here! I'm so happy and excited. She is such a sweet sweet thing. She will be 9 weeks old tomorrow.

When I first brought her home (late afternoon yesterday) she adapted really well. She never cried or fussed. She pretty much made herself at home and has become attached to me. She did not eat her dry food that came from the breeder. I tried to feed it to her but she wouldn't take it. I was getting worried so I boiled plain chicken in water, cut it up, mixed it with rice, and fed it to her. She ate it all. Her first night she went straight to her bed and slept all night long. She has a play pen with her bed, food/water bowls, and puppy pad.

Today (630am) she woke us up because she was crying. She was hungry so I fed her the chicken and rice again. She played for a bit, maybe 5-10min then we took her to the vet.

She slept the whole way there (about an hour drive), and the whole way back. So she didn't eat or drink the whole time we were gone. I took some chicken and rice, and some water but she did not take it. I got worried so I gave her a couple of dabs of Nutrical she licked my fingers clean. We went home, and I stopped giving her the chicken because the vet told me not to give human food to her just yet because she might not like to eat dog food ever again. So she gave us Eukanuba Dry Food Puppy for small breeds.

ANYWAY...sorry to make this so long. She didn't seem to like the kibble. She was having a hard time smashing them with her teeth. So I put water into it to make it soft and still she did not eat it. I've been giving her Nutrical every time she did not eat. UNTIL, I put the soft kibble into my hand and she ate it! She'll eat about 20 to 30 pieces at every feeding.

Is that too much or too little? How much should they eat?

ALSO, she SLEEPS SO MUCH! I get worried that she might be hypoglycemic or is she always supposed to sleep that much?

She will sleep for about and hour, get up, eat OR potty and play for about 5-10min...THEN go back to sleep...please tell me this is normal I'm so worried! I give the Nutrical to her when I feel like she doesn't eat enough.

She sleeps like 80% of the day!

What do you guys think?

On the PLUS side she goes potty on her pad EVERY TIME and I didn't have to train her!!! Whenever she wakes up from a nap or is done eating, she goes straight to the pad and does her business and I praise her and praise her...no treats given yet tho lol....I feel so lucky!

Here are some pictures from my facebook.

I have no idea what this nutrical stuff is,basically shes a dog and like a human baby she will eat when she is hungry. no animal would intentionally starve itself so sdont worry so much about the food.(human baby we delight every time baby drinks a half ounce more of furmula milk!) but you cant tell with a dog thats all.
and as for the sleeping thats fine to. a puppy will get absolutley nackered just from eating and weeing and "looking" at a ball let alone playing with it.
my buster was 9 weeks yesterday and is exactly the same but last week when I got him at 8 weeks he slept more and ate even less, its a gradual process sweety.
as for vet saying "dont give chicken" sod him. give the pup what you want to its your pet. just dont be a nasty owner and give biscuits (cookies) or chocolate ffs.
enjoy the puppy stage cus it soon gets to walkies and picking up poo in the street with some old lady scowling at you lol

Sounds like you are doing a great job! Relax. If they are eating, drinking, pooping, peeing, sleeping, waking--they're fine. You will learn your pups routine in no time. Yes, soften the hard food. And, is it tiny bite-sized kibble for toy breeds? There are several brands.

You are doing everything rigth and she sounds like a puppy on the right path . Puppies sleep alot just lke babies

She can est the dry food she may not like it and is useing the fact that you love her to give her chicken lol but I agree if you to feed cooked chicken and rice, do it a member here does it as well as feeding dog food .

I'm battleing with what to feed now lol I want to go raw but can't find and good info so just read up on what you'd like to read and follow your heart for your baby

My only piece of advice would be to let her eat the kibble and not feed chicken all the time or she will become a picky eatter. If chicken is always offered she will wait for it and not eat the kibble. Willy only tends to eat his kibble when i am close/sittiing with him lol Which is a pain in the rear. Luna however (my 8 week old) eats like a lil piggy and doesn't care if I am there or not, though she was overweight looking when I first got her but has seemed to slim down a bit since I got her. She is more sleepy cuz she is a baby. She has lots of naps. She has playtime with the other dogs and has play time alone to play with her toys, but she still does lots of naps inbetween

HI ALL thanks for the advice! I found out that she will eat her kibble soft, but not mushy, and she has to be sitting on her bed and eat out of my hand! It's the only way she will eat it. Sometimes she will eat 20-30 pieces and other times she will eat just 5-10pieces. When she only eats a little I give her a dab of Nutrical.

To Jerry'sMom she has the kibble for tiny breed puppies. They're like little rocks! I feel so bad for her when she struggles to eat them when they're not wet.

Another thing is she only poops once or twice a day. Is that normal? She will poop in the morning when she wakes up, and then at night sometime around bedtime. But she pees all through out the day.
