Huey is two years old and has always gobbled his food. Last night about 3 hours after eating he brought up his dinner which wasn't even chewed up. What can I do to slow down his eating and ensure he chews it? It is the first time he has vomitted but I still think he eats too fast.
Thank you so much Hollysmommy for my new siggy.
There was a post on here a while back - a member bought a special bowl which slows down the dogs eating - it had little nubs of plastic in the bowl that the dog had to work around to get the food - I did try searching for the post but couldn't find it.
From what I remember it really worked well.
Hopefully someone knows where to find the bowl and will let you know.
Yes, those type bowls are available at the pet store ( in my area at least) and I saw one in a catalog yesterday. When I get home I'll post a link to it.
The one I"m thinking of has a sort of dome in the middle, so their food forms a ring around it, and they can't get too much of their mouth into the bowl - they have to work a little bit to get their food.
I use a golf ball for my chi. She's a gulper and eats way too fast. Rather than spend a small fortune on a special bowl I just stick a golf ball in her dish which makes her work around it and subsequently she is forced to eat slower. It's worked wonderfully for us.
I have an additional question....so here is me hijacking the post lol (sorry! ) When they eat fast, can it cause their tummy to get bigger looking? I swear Luna eats SUPER fast and after it almost looks like her lil tummy is blown up
