Default Hyper and Noisey?

Ok I want on facebook and did the Pet Pupz thing and she saw that I choose a Chi. We'll she made a comment about it and I was surpsised she even brought it since we had a little fight about getting a dog. Well she looks at her face book and brings it up and says, "Have your ever been around a Chihuahua?" I say no, but I've been reading about them and I remembered one of my cousins has one and then my mom says, "well their mouths stink and their hyper and noisey." O____O? I'm like no their mouths don't stink and I don't care if their hyper and noisey. But now I want to if they are really hyper and noisey?

That's kind of a stereotype that Chi's have. But no, they aren't noisy and hyper if they are socialized and trained. Yes, they can be kind of high energy at times, but for the most part they will settle down and then you have the best little lap dog in the world.

Thanks for the info.
I told my mom and now she thinks owners would say that cause they own the dog and love them. But I believe if you ask someone that doesn't own one how can you tell?

You're right. Owners tend to be a little biased and prejudiced towards their breed.

And your mom is right too..... Chihuahua's do have a reputation for being nasty little ankle biters that bark all the time.

The truth lies somewhere in between.

in my experience... they can be a lil crazy and rambunctious for being so little but at the same time they can be so quiet and tranquil and snuggly lap babies... it really depends on the dog...but i do have to say my lil guy in particular is the most loving quietest lil snugglebug ( unless someones knocking at the door and/walking by the yard...or you happen to be a bird, butterfly or dog or stranger)

My mother-in-law got a Chi that was about four months old and it yapped at everybody that would walk by or come near.

When I got Proud Mex-USA at two months he was socialized from the start since he was always around a lot of people and new people. I don't know if that made a difference. Then at six months old he stayed a couple times at a friend's home for a week at a time and she had two Chi dogs and others. Well, that's when he found his bark.

When he came back he was barking at everybody instead of being that friendly, waiting for the attention guy. He also at this time began looking outside the glass and barking at any stranger walking by which was a good thing since it alerted me that somebody was in the area. It wasn't too much longer that he returned to his old friendly self and stopped barking at people. The only time he barks now is if there's another animal nearby or somebody knocks at the door until he sees it's okay. (Since he gets attention.)

Oreo is the same as Proud Mex-USA. I'm very fortunate that they like attention from others.

They do make good watchdogs but not guard dogs!

I'm so proud of these two.
