Default Inova EVO or Wellness??? I Don't Know Which Is Better

Ok so my Jukka is 2.5 lbs and I have been feeding her Inova EVO but after reading some other posts on here I have been thinking that maybe I should change to Wellness. But I am not 100% sure. Jukka is my first chi and I want to make sure I am doing everything I can to keep her healthy. I have read that maybe EVO has too much protien. She was on puppy chow when I first got her but that was making her poo runny and since the change she has been fine...except for if she eats any canned food. I think that grain free is the best way to go for her, unless anybody knows of something I should try. So I don't know which is better for her Inova EVO or Wellness or if I should try something else. Please help...What kind of food should I feed her?

Also if anyone knows of a canned food I can try that wont upset her tummy that would be awesome...she loves it so much but I try not to give her any.

Hi, Welcome to Chi Ppl.
At Jukka's age, I would feed Royal Canin for puppies. There are several varieties based on your pup's age. My dogs were started on it for their first year. They are healthy, happy and have beautiful coats Wellness Core is their new food. We are just making the transition. It is only offered for dogs over the age of One. Whatever you feed, make very, very gradual changes in diet to avoid stomach upset. I add 1/4th new food to 3/4th old food for a couple days then increase to 1/2 and 1/2 for several more days, etc.
Best of luck with your little Chi!

I feed my adult chi Tango, Innova Evo, the Red Meat Small Bites. He's 3.9 lbs. He's done extremely well on it, it cleared up a variety of issues he had when I rescued him at 7 months. I temporarily added in some Merrick Turducken, but he began gaining weight so I stopped.

I also have a 5 month old puppy, Jazz, that I rescued at 11 weeks. She's on the Merrick Puppy plate till she gets a bit older, when I'll switch her to Evo too. I prefer grain free, but the Evo's not for puppies which I why I chose the Merrick brand for her till I can make the switch. She also had medical problems when she was rescued, and the Merrick has done a good job of making her strong.

They (Merrick) also make a canned food that both dogs absolutely LOVE, and I give it very occasionally as a special treat. It's called Puppy Plate, and while it's for puppies it's nutritionally sound, so Tango gets it every now and again (like maybe once a month.) It's human grade, no additives, smells yummy, and neither dog has had any digestive problems with it, no soft poops, no issues at all.

You might want to give that a try.

macy has a very sensitive stomach too, the evo was too rich for her and she'd have trouble with gastritis and cholitis every couple of months, I've since switched her to wellness canned chicken and sweet potato, and she loves it and is doing well on it. The chicken and sweet potato is the only flavor she doesn't have trouble with. A couple of weeks into the wellness i thought I would try the venison to give her something different, but it was too rich for her too, so we stick to chicken and sweet potato.

My whole crew is on Innova EVO (chicken formula) - even Marley who is 14 weeks old. It is an all live stages food & our vet is perfect fine with feeding a pup that and he's doing well on it.

Only you can make the decision to switch but personally, if they are doing well on it I'd stick to it. It's one of the best foods out there & the smaller dogs generally do well on a high protein diet.

Both are excellent grain free foods and I feed both to my dogs. However both Evo and Core are best suited for adult dogs. Evo is labeled as an all life stages food but it is really best suited for the adult dog, not so much puppies. But plenty of people do feed it to their puppies and have not seen any ill effects such as growth issues or deficiencies. Personally I would stick with a puppy kibble like Innova puppy or Wellness puppy for a few more months if Jukka's stomach can handle it.
