Both the Chihuahua I have and will soon be getting are paper trained. House training my current chi over the past 11 months has been a nightmare and I will have another one coming soon. I know there are some folks who have litter pan trained Chi's. So I am wondering what you all think on this. Do you think it would be easy to litter train Chihuahuas who are already paper trained? Or do you guys think it would be about the same difficulty to litter train as it would be to house (outside) train?
What I am hoping is that I can have a litter tray in the house (with sides) so that it's not just a puppy pad loose on the floor and house train as best as possible. But the litter tray would be out and available as a "back up" so to speak for emergencies. Why an emergency tray? Well, my chi, Faith, doesn't let me know when she has to go, she just goes to the front door for 2 seconds and if no one lets her out the moment she gets there she will go off into a room in the house where no one is and eliminates. I'm so tired of having to have her tethered to me or be watching her every second of the day for the past 11 months that I'm thinking maybe the litter pan for such emergencies when she just cannot wait to go out...
I'm interested too, I have the litter but she doesn't even use the pads for some reason. She has no problem going when I take her outside though but she does go in the house and I would like her to have a place to go but she doesn't get it. Here is a good link I think, if she ever starts using the pads i'm going to follow this.
UGH the link is on my other computer, i'll get it for you later sorry!
That's okay, I'm not in any rush. And I wasn't going to use actual litter in the litter tray. I was planning to just put a puppy pad in the litter tray and maybe top it with some newspaper since that's what they are used to from their previous home.
