Question ~~Help 2 1/2 Chihuahua fussy eater

My biggest guestion right now anyone out there help us is what to feed our Chihuahua she was two when my husband got her from a shelter. We always had Shelties's. This dog Roxie is so fussy with food. My husband is giving her basically meat warm up everyday. Everything else she seems to put her nose up to. She's very sweet but, I worry that she is not going to be healthy. Plus I was always told little snack in the day but, once a dog is grown feed them once a day. My husband feeds her 2 to 3 times a day. We never did with our other dogs and, they lived a long time. Roxie makes us nervous because she just wants meat no dog food. Please help gives us ideas of what else to feed her.

I feed misty three times a day but thats because she has liver issues. Shes a 3.5 pound wee girl. Before that i fed her twice a day on orijen or home cooked food, like chicken, cous cous and shredded carrot, potatoes, mashed green beans, scrambled egg, apple etc.

You and your husband need to agree on what is best. If you are going to feed her once a day or multiple times. Personally, I like to see dogs fed twice a day, morning and evening, but that's just my preference. But I think it helps to stabilize blood sugar and keep the dog feeling satisfied, rather than just once a day. That is my opinion though.

Do you want to feed commercial dog food? Home cooked? Raw? You need to both discuss what diet you would prefer and then stick to it. Just feeding the dog randomly is not good for her and makes a fussy, picky eater.

Roxie wants meat because it tastes good and is species appropriate. Once dogs eat real meat, they usually turn up their noses at commercial kibble which can vary in quality significantly. If you do decide to feed kibble, please go to dogfoodanalysis.com and pick a 5 or 6 star food. Wellness, Evo, Innova, Wellness Core, Taste of the Wild, etc. are all better quality foods. Grain free is generally acknowledged to be better.

Sounds like you and your husband need to talk about how you want to feed this dog and then do some research into what is the best diet. Once you are both on board with what to feed - things should even out.

I find with their tiny stomach and high energy, twice at least is best. Three times if they are being crazy active.

Question And what do you feed them so far

So far my husband warms up different kinds of meats she won't eat anything else very fussy. Please if you have the time give us some ideas of what your dog likes to eat. And if there is a brand of dry dog food, and a brand of can. I just don't think it's good that she only eats one thing meats .Thanks for answering very worried.

With my two, they get a handful of kibble with a couple chunks of canned meat (dog food) cut up in it. Then I put some water over it and put it in the microwave for 12 seconds. When I first give it to them, they of course eat all the meat out. I then set it aside. Later, after the kibble is soft and moist, I offer it again and they eat the kibble. Neither of mine like hard kibble, but they will eat it when it is softened.

I gave you some ideas of good quality foods in my reply above.

If your husband likes to give her only meats, then research home cooking and give him the recipes and he can create a menu for her.
