Unhappy 3 more weeks still spay....

My Mango is getting spayed on March 19th. I'm so nervous! She is less than 4lbs. I was told at the vet that I could have an optional blood test done to see if she would be able to handle the anesthetics because it's possible she will not wake up again!!!! OK. That freaked me out!!!

I'm dropping her off at the vet in the morning by 8am and I can't pick her back up till later that day at 6pm. They want to monitor her during that day just in case she doesn't do well. Her appointment is on a Friday and the vet is right across the street from my job so after I get off I can run over there and pick her up. Then I'll take care of her for the weekend but I cannot take off work so my husband will be off Monday and Tuesday to take care of her. (We're both off on Sat/Sun).

Is there any advice you can give me to prepare for the surgery and after the surgery???

Yes, get the lab work done to determine she can handle the anesthesia. It's worth the peace of mind you get. Had it done for Jerry when he had his dental.
Tabitha was about 3 lbs when she was spayed. Biggest concern was keeping her from being too active the week after surgery. She bounced back really easily. Jerry gets sick to his stomach after anesthesia, so I know not to feed him that evening while it's wearing off. It's funny they take it so differently (they are littermates).

Try to relax. You can search the threads on here and nearly everyone posts when it's time for their pup to be spayed or neutered--then, they post when it's over and they feel relieved A little nervousness is normal. Anxiety that keeps you up at night is not. She will be fine. So will you. Take Care.

I was sooo worried about my little Oakley when she got spayed. She was about 2.5 lbs. I had the pre-bloodwork done, it helped put my mind at ease.

She came out of it like a champ. In fact, she was trying to bounce around by 9 or 10 that night. I think she will do just fine.

I did make sure I fattened her up a bit before the surgery, and then the morning before even though she wasn't supposed to eat, she got some goat's milk and nutrical, just to get her blood sugars up.

Thank you all for your replies. I will definitely do the bloodwork, just to be safe. I love my girls so much! I would totally be devistated if anything happened to her from her surgery.
