Angry My chi thinks she has a puppy???

My dog has been carrying around a little stuffed chihuahua for 24hrs straight and keeps whining and will not let the other chi's go near it or let us touch it. She's not in heat is not pregnant and has been a mother before. I don't get why she's doing this it is becoming so annoying because she keeps whimpering and carrying it around, she even takes it outside to pee with her.....what is the deal?

Awww...haha, kinda cute, but I bet it does interfere if she has to take it with her everywhere! As for knowing why she is doing this, I have no clue...but it is very interesting!

Ya it is very odd. I've had my boyfriends chihuahua here for the week while I'm on vacation but his chihuahua is her daughter so I don't think it's an attention thing, they see each other every weekend, just don't reside in the same household right now due to a family members illness.

She was just in heat in December and didn't mate with any dogs. So she can't be going into heat already again. She will be getting fixed eventually.

I asked her a couple times where her puppies were and I used to say that when she really had puppies or if she'd be downstairs with us and I heard them crying I would say "Baby go get your puppies" so maybe I triggered something and she's missing them? I didn't think they really remembered them once they were gone though. She doesn't acknowledge her real daughter as hers she doesn't bother with her much at all. I don't know but I hope I get some sleep tonight!!

Sounds like she had a false pregnancy.
If she went into heat in December then I believe this is about the time she would have delivered her puppies. I could be wrong.

she has no symptoms of a false pregnancy though she didn't gain weight, her hair didn't fall out, she doesn't have liquid coming out of her nipples etc. It's just odd. Yesterday she didn't eat anything all day which is normal for her sometimes she skips a day of eating but late at night I grabbed a bowl of grapes for myself and got her a bowl of food to offer it to her again and I had left the bowl of grapes on my bed while I went to get her food and when I got back she got into my grapes which is VERY ODD my chi's never ever touch my plate if I leave them alone with it. I'm not sure how many she ate and I heard that grapes are toxic but she hasn't been sick or anything just been having strange behaviour.

My mother in law has terminal cancer and she has really picked up on it she definitely can sense it because she won't sleep with us she has to sleep with my mother in law while we are visiting on the weekends. I'm not sure if this might be a reason for distress too? I really don't know but she is still currently whining and I'm getting ready for bed so she had better get herself to bed also or she may be sleeping outside tonight (just kidding) LOL.

I agree that it sounds like a falsie. Poor girl. They don't need ALL the symptoms to be suffering from a disorder.

Are you planning on spaying her?

Is she having any kind of discharge at all? I would wonder about pyometra. False pregnancies are common and she doesn't have to get larger or have milk production for it to be a false pregnancy. Her hormones are out of whack and she is in distress. I would take her to the vet to make sure she isn't having anything physical going on. A closed pyometra can be very dangerous and every heat cycle they go through without having puppies increases the risk.
