Default Keeping dog comfortable after surgery

What's the best way to keep a dog comfortable after surgery?

She will have to be on cage rest for awhile to rest, recuperate, and keep the other dogs away from the incision.

I was going to get a new bed for her crate so that she could stretch out to sleep (we currently only have the round ones that they love so much). Also, I was going to get a hamster water thingy to attach to her cage. We do have an x-pen but I think she'd get too much movement in there so she will be in a traditional crate.

I was thinking about getting her a onsie to wear and cutting out a hole for her tail. Has anyone tried this? I wanted to cover the surgery area so that she couldn't lick it (or anyone else couldn't lick it either).

I can put chewies into the crate. What toys would be good? I want mental stimulation but not physical. Everything we currently has provides both.

We also will probably take her for walks in our stroller after a week or so. She loves to be outside so being in the house AND on cage rest will not be fun for her.

So, any ideas?

When Quigley had his surgeries I put his bed on the couch next to me. I had to carry him out side as the steps were too high for him to walk up or down them with out chancing him rubbing the incision on the step so I carried him. I found it easiest if he was on a towel. I could get under the towel, which offered support, and pick him up in it. I carried him out side and sat the towel with him in it gently on the ground and he walked off of it. He quickly learned to step back on the towel then I would pick him up. The other dogs sniffed him but never touched his incision. He did have a collar on when I was not right with him so he would not bother his sutures though. When I was not able to watch him every second he would stay in his crate on a comfy bed with soft fleece.
