Default UpDate on Dixie and her Tummy problems

This has been my first chance to update and thank everyone for their help. Monday was a great day for Dixie- twos days of receiving Pepcid- she played, ate great and we took several. Late into the night she became very restless and I noticed she was doing quite a bit of scratching. We were up and down all night. In the morning she was rubbing her face on the floor and more scratching. I noticed she was breaking out around her mouth, her ears, and feet. I called her vet- he was in surgery and after about an hour I called again and spoke directly with him. He wanted to see her and so off we went. By the time we arrived, her temperature was 103 and she was red all over. He said she was having a reaction to the Pepcid and her immune system was in overdrive. It broke my heart to leave her there and come home to a long night of no sleep. I would drift off to sleep and then wake up reaching out to see if she was there with me. Morning came and he phoned to tell me she was better but wanted to keep her til later in the evening. Around 2 he called and said she was missing her momma and I could take her home. I was never so happy, but at the same time very worried as her tummy problem cannot be addressed until she recovers from this ordeal. We discussed changing her food later to a better brand, but not until she recovers from this as he said this had really been quite stressful on her tiny body. He is a good vet and does not push brands of dog foods, just what works and is healthy for the dogs. He has consulted another great vet about her tummy and both tend to think she has an ulcer or something that becoming more of a problem. As soon as she becomes strong enough I will need to have her scoped to see what is going on with her. I will keep everyone updated on how things go. Tonight she ate well but is very weak.

Poor girl. Zoey has had Helicobacter Gastritis (ulcer causing bug) before and it was NOT a fun thing. I hope they figure out what's going on with your baby soon and get her some relief.

I had never heard of a reaction to Pepcid. Poor baby. Hope everything gets sorted out soon.

She is delicate when it comes to medicine. we have had a few scares. Today, she ate well and moved around more. There is a rash on her tummy, inside of her ears, all over her feet and around her mouth. I just wonder how much is on the inside of her. She slept much better last night. I am hoping all goes well and we can soon find out what is wrong with her. What did the vet do for Zoey when she had the helicobacteria?

Zoey was on 2 antibiotics (Doxycycline & Amoxicillin) as well as an antacid (Zantac--ranitidine) for 3 weeks. If you don't use it for 3 weeks it will be back before you know it. It does have the tendancy to recur.
