Default Worried About Paco

Paco does something that has me a little concerned. He loves to burrow under the covers. I understand this is normal behavior for Chihuahuas but he burries even his head/face and I'm worried that he's going to suffocate! Is this something I need to be concerned about?

I don't think you should worry. If a dog would have suffocated by being under covers, it would be Brody. He crawls clear in his sleeping bag and is completely covered up. You have to dig him out to find him and he's perfectly fine. No worries.

My last Chi used to bury himself in our daughters sleeping bag when we went camping and would stay by her feet (YAK) all night

Dixie does the same thing. I think this is one of their traits and I do believe it gives them security.

I wouldn't worry about it at all. My girls jump on the bed and snuggle right up! They will burrow themselves all the way in the cover by my feet under the electric blanket lol. My concern about this at first was they would be smashed or suffocate too but that worry is gone now after all these years they are pretty smart and move when they need to. (They def hog the bed though! lol)

Very normal. They won't suffocate at all. Tico always buries himself every night under a blanket in his bed, I have to unwrap him to go to bed. And at night, 6 of my dogs are under the covers with me, even in the winter when I have my heavy quilt on the bed. Tico tends to bark at people coming into the dog room or standing at the gate to talk to me, so every night we have a barking blanket. lol

Zoey buries herself so much you can't see her, and she's done this since she was a tiny pup, she's almost 5 years old and hasn't suffocated yet. I have find if they feel 'claustrophobic' or such they will come up for air.
