My Chihuahuas are fighting a lot!

Hello, I'm Mario, the owner of 2 little Chihuahuas, one is 10 years old and the other one is barely hitting 2, and she was a gift for my sister. Canica and Chiya, both are female.

The thing is, these two chihuahuas were getting alone fine, aside from the fact that the older one has her little character and she likes to be left alone by the other.

I don't know what happened, but in the last month, the younger one, Chiya, is been purpously provoking random fights with Canica, we think it's just for the sake of it because we see no apparent reason for this, and the fights have been escalating from just a few barks to full blown bites to the throat and neck, I don't know if we have to separate them, or if we don't, but the old one is too old, and she can't defend quite well, and well, what can be done to stop this kind of behaviour from the younger one?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the board! :)

It sounds to me like your youngest is now trying to be Alpha female now. Your older one is getting older and the youngest is challenging for that pack order. You also may want to take your older girl to the vet to make sure there are no health issues as sometimes when a Chi is sick the other senses it and this can occur as well.

If it were me I would establish pack leadership over them both. You can google NILIF (Nothing in life is free) this is a great training based on rewards. They have to do something for you before allowed to get anything like getting on the couch, bed, eating, etc... I would first get your older Chi checked out though to make sure there is nothing going on with her;-)
