Default No sleep for mom

Hi all. I am sure this has been asked a thousand times but I thought who better to ask than other chi owners.

We just brought Mojo home last weekend. He is 8 weeks old. He was sleeping in a crate w his brothers and sister previously. When i brought him home i bought him a little crate. I got up every few hours to take him potty.

He did ok going in and going to sleep at the beginning of the night. But then after potty he would howl and cry.

I have made him a comfy home in my utility room. His crate, a potty patch, a small fan for noise. This is where my min pin sleeps in her bed.

He started sleeping longer the last two nights. from about 1030 to 430 am. Then he wants to freak out and howl until i go get him. I know I am not supposed to but i dont want him waking the whole house.

I think I am going to have to bite it and let him howl tonight though. I dont know what else to do. I can let my min pin sleep w me until he sleeps through the night. She could care less where she sleeps but she growls at him from under her blanket when he starts his howling. So i hate to coop her up w that again.

Maybe shut the door, shut MY door, and try to tough it out.

What do you think? Any advice? I feel sorry for the little guy but he cant sleep w me neither of us sleep well if he does.

HELP! Im desperate for sleep! I have to get up and go to work at 6am every day.

Tucker's breeder had fortunately already had him crate trained! Just give him time. Tucker still whines a little but if he's went potty & eaten I know he just doesn't want in there. Then he just stops. So as long as you know he's done all that just let him cry. I know it's hard!

That is why I use the utility room for their "home" area. I have a min pin and I know its hard for them to hold it a long time sometimes. Even my 2.5 yr old pin Squirly has to go sometimes. Now she's pretty good so she roams the house most days. My fiance always swings by home on lunch and takes them outside. I bought a$100 dollar dang baby gate that has a hinge door to open and walk through so i didnt have to take it down over and over. And they cant climb it, or jump over it i got the high one. My utility is roomy really and I took the door off his crate. I bought the potty patch at petco its the one that resembles a patch of grass. That way he can relieve themselves if need be and go back to bed. He poo'd on the pad... just didnt quite get the "go back to bed" part down.

lol

Hes so darn cute its hard to hear him howl. My poor girl Squirly was just a growling away at him as if saying SHUT UP! She is gentle with him. I don't worry about her hurting him. When he gets rowdy even during play time and is biting him.... she just pins him down with her tail wagging (not squishing) for a moment and then lets him up. Usually he does it again cause he thinks its funny. And she gets smart and gets on the couch or bed if she isnt in the mood to play.

I've been told that Mylo is unusually good (I hope not since I want another puppy!) but we put him in a crate in our bedroom. He started crying and jumping around so I moved the crate next to my bed and put my hand through the bars and he went to sleep with his head against my hand. I did that on the second night and after that he was fine. I prefer to keep him in my bedroom but he has slept on his own in his crate in my sister's kitchen and not made a peep.

I was fortunate also with Angel. He cried for 15 min each of 2 nights and that was it. He slept through the night from day one!! I woke him up during the night, for the first week we had him, to go pee. The vet said let him sleep, if he's sleeping. So he has been doing so ever since! He does sleep in a carrier in our bedroom, no toys just blankets. he likes his sleep time! He is now 21 months old.

So, give him time, he will get there. You might try putting his crate in your bedroom, but with the door shut.

We did put him in our room... that made the howling worse! He wouldn't stop.

Last night we tried to tough it out. he woke at 3:40 and howled. he was back asleep by 4. But of course up and bouncing off the walls when i got up for work by 7. I slept in today. shame shame. lol i was tired!
