Default Would u/do u let other people walk ur chis??

Wondering as my neighbour keeps asking can she walk mine as she wants to start walking every evening for exercise and would love to take my dogs. It worrys me greatly! Esp as they are so small, maybe a bigger breed I would be more comfortable letting someone else walk, but not my little chis. I'd be afraid if they got off the lead somehow that she wouldn't be able to get them back, and she wouldn't be as careful as I would with them.
Am i being wierd?

I never let anyone other than my family members let walk Rocky. I don't even think he would walk with anyone else . Ha.
I got a friend whos neighbour took out her Papillon. One day he run away out of fear (as the neighbour had taken him out). 2 days later she found him, being abused and hurt (had all his nails ripped out of his right front paw and bruises to his rips) under a bridge with a rope around his neck (he had a harness on as he run away).

So especially after hearing this I would never ever let anyone other than a family members walk Rocky (and even then I'm not 100% convinced). I preferably always walk him myself (and mostly do).

I personally don't think you are being weird at all, I am paranoid about my chi's safety as I'm sure we all are on here. There are only three people allowed to walk my dogs, me, my hubby and my 19 year old son who I know would guard them with his life. Other people have offered and I have politely declined.

That's horrendous...poor thing. I let one of my sisters, Nickie, walk him (she has him on a Friday) and I've let my nephews and niece and one of my other sisters walk Mylo under my supervision and Nickie let's her kids walk him under her supervision but I wouldn't trust anyone else to walk him unless me or Nickie were there.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but I know no one will protect my dogs like I will and in my mind, it is my resposibilty to protect my pack. That goes for all my dogs, big ones, too.

Years ago, I let someone borrow my dobe to take him for a walk. He was completly dependable and ob trained, so I wasn't worried. Imagine my horror whan I hear chaos break out and found that my leashed dog was being ambushed by two free ranging labs - with a young teen holding the leash - she was terrified and powerless to help, and froze holding onto Onyx' lead. SHe never looked to see if it was safe to walk and the dogs came from nowhere (her words - they had come from the house she'd just passed).

So, no one walks my dogs but me. No one. Even my 16 year old daughter walks her own dogs or ocassionally mine, but always with me there. I need to protect her, too. I don't even let the folks at the vet clinic handle my dogs without me. They are my dogs and my responsibility.

I actually love that you are all same "paranoid" as I am about this. Usually ppl with bigger dogs (such as friends/neighbours) think I am a crazy Chihuahua lady being over protective and over paranoid.....

Omg see that's my biggest fear, one or both of them somehow getting out of their harness or my neighbour accidentally dropping the lead and my dogs running off, it's never happened to me, my dogs are very good with recall, but you never know what could happen, esp with someone they don't know as well as me. I would be esp worried about Sugar as she's so nervy, if anything spooked her she could run.
That is an AWFUL story, so scary, I just couldn't cope with the chance of that happening. They are such little dogs, there is so much out there that could damage them. Thank u for sharing that, I think it's made up my mind!!!

Lol I'm so glad I'm not the only one that feels this!

I just couldn't relax if someone else was out walking them without me. I know my dogs are good and always on a lead, but what if someone else's dog was off lead and was bad with other dogs and went for my girls, would someone else know to watch out for this like i would and be prepared to lift them quickly before the dog got to them??
Also I can't help thinking about the fact that they are worth money and chihuahuas are stolen all the time, what if someone tried to take them from my neighbour?! I can't help but worry about these things!!
