at what age do Chi's usually come in heat?? and how long are they usually in ??? I can't get Pixie in to the Vet to be spayed until Nov. 27th unless they have a cancelation. She is already 8or 9 months old.

I don't know for how long, but I do know that 8-12 months is generally about the time they come into season for the first time.

heat cycles last 3 weeks, and you need to wait 2 mo after heat to get her spayed. Some vets will spay anytime, but extra money. The blood vessels are bigger at heat cycle and its not as safe.

Thanks all!! Looks like I may have a fun Fall. We have a couple of small male dogs that roam the neighbor hood !!! Will have to watch her really close. Vet said to call once a week to see if there is a cancelation !!! I certainly will !!!

Holly came in heat at almost 10 months old. All are different though it is hard to tell. She is going on 11 months Oct 15. She will be spayed right before her 1st birthday.

O boy that's always such a fun time lol! I used to do the whole "doggie diaper" thing, but I found that's easier on my girls if I just keep them wrapped up in a blanket.

Is there any way you can ask her breeder when her mother came in heat for the first time? I have noticed with dogs (and humans) that they tend to follow what their mothers did. I used to think it was size dependant until I had a toy poodle come in at 10 months and a Kelpie (adult weight of 32 pounds) come in at the delicate age of 6 months!
Any female I get now, I ask the breeder when her mother matured. That way, I have an idea as to when to start watching for it. Hmm, that reminds me - time to start keeping an eye out on Treasure.
