Default We're BACK!! And have lots of questions...

We have been extremely busy lately, so I apologize for being M.I.A from the forum for a while. This past week we moved out of our townhouse & back into our parents homes. Not exactly what we had planned, to say the least. We had wanted to stay in our townhouse until we were able to put a down payment on a home, but the landlord wanted to increase the rent incredibly high & we were unable to afford it. So here we are, back in our parent's homes. At least this will help us save our money!! Anyway, Ote is going "back and forth" from her daddy's house to my house. She is NOT liking the change at all. Neither of these houses are her "home" and she is in unfamiliar territory. She has snuck out the door twice without her "dad" noticing & luckily, I was on my way over BOTH times (for very random reasons....things must happen for a reason! If it hadn't have been for me coming over & spotting her roaming, she would have been long gone). She has NEVER done anything like this before. Do you think it's because she doesn't like the "new territory"? We are getting her microchipped soon & she now has her collar and ID tag on 24/7, but what can we do to make her not want to run?

Also, we noticed that she has fleas. Great. Mojo does not have them YET but they are constantly playing together despite our efforts to keep them apart for the time being so I'm sure he'll end up with some nasty little bugs on him as well. What can we do to treat them? Of all my years living with dog after dog, I've never witnessed a flea infestation. I had them on Advantix Flea & Tick control, but I guess the little buggers decided to take a liking to Miss Ote anyway. Maybe I didn't apply properly? We washed her with a Listerine/Water solution & rinsed thoroughly (something I saw in Ceasar magazine) but it only killed the bugs, not the eggs. We are trying to avoid using any harsh chemicals on her, as Ote has very sensitive skin. Any tips/advice would be great! Thank you! We've missed you all. Pictures to come soon!!

Be the person your dog thinks you are.

Hi there! I heard that Comfortis flea chews work great; just talked to my vet about them today. You'll have to get something to kill the already existing fleas and eggs though...
The flea issue is really big here in the US...

This year is bad year for fleas. that are not affected by the treatments like immune to it all. Normally Amberleah home made treatment works great this year nope. And I got stuff from vet and nope. I got her stuff from holistic for her and cats, powder stuff you put in food where fleas are to not want to stay on them and as tastes bad and special shampoo and organic natural spray. Still wont kill them. I remove everyone and spray the house in every corner and wash curtains floor and vacuum sofa. Still can not get ride of the bugs. I have no clue what to do. i take flea comb to them several times a day I am amazed how many I get off the cats. I live in forest and lots of sand too. I have to be very careful what I put on Amberleah as she allergic to everything seems.

Fleas don't lay eggs on the dog, they lay them in the carpet, sofa, dogs bed etc. So you will need to treat the environment as well as the dog. I use a spray for the house. You have to treat all areas at once, and only allow the dogs back in when they are flea free. I prefer to use bathing and a flea comb to chemicals on my dogs.
As for the roaming, she is probably just unsettled from the upheaval. She only escapes from your OHs house, is she looking for you? You say you were on your way over, maybe she knew that.
