Default Exsessive barking & Running from me @7 mons.

Mo will soon be 7 months old and he has started non stop barking at sudden noises and at almost anything/anyone (attack killer dog style), and he has also started running from me when I pick him up, which I dislike a lot. Is this a puppy stage? Will he calm down when he is neutered or as he ages? Diff trying to adjust to this as my older chi is so calm and passive. I know chis are sensitive to noise but he goes on and on and on as loud and over bearing as he can ugh! And the running from me has me frustrated and it hurts my feelers lol, Terrible Twos?

Sounds more like a rebellious, angst ridden teenage phase to me. Time to step up the recall training. I'm hitting the onset of this phase as well and am doing just that. Reinforcement is now our best friend. We can see each other through it!

My trainer told me to get something really thin (venetian cord) and have them drag that around. When he starts running away, you can gently reel him in to you. Now that I have said that---make SURE you are around when you attach the cord. You don't want it to catch on anything.

For the barking a small pressurised water spray bottle whilst simultaneously growling, "Noooooo Barking!!!" has cured mine completely, this horrific habit was quickly & effectively broken using this method.

As for running away, some will forever, some won't. It helps if you get right down low for them to come to you. 2 of mine go mad with excitement when they see their harness, the other 2 take off like rabbits. I let them all up on my bed, push the stairs away & put their harnesses on.

Oh god, i kno wat u mean on the running away part. When ever tiny and i stop to take a break when we're out and driving, i call her to come she comes but wen i go to pick her up she turns around and walks away. I call her again and the same thing happens over and over, very frustrating >:[ i have to chase her and yell her name very loud for her to stop and kno that im very serious she's never done this before, she started this a couple months ago. So for now on she stays on a leash every-time-we-go-out. It sucks cuz she used to be so good at coming on command and letting me pick her up wen its time. Thanks for bringing this topic up! And goodluck!
