Hello all. I am going to rescuing a little blue merle chi. he is 6 months old, upt on shots and fixed. I have been looking at pictures and reading a bit about them. Do they really have serious health problems? Does anyone else have the blue merles? I cannot wait to get my hands on the lil guy! and just love him to bits! I will be getting him this next week. Now I am going to have 2 puppies in the house I am picking up my girl tomorrow! LOL I really hope Peanut doesnt hate me!

All merles can have health issues, it really depends how the pigment is placed as it is a random spotting gene. It is usually hearing and/or eyesight that is affected, which should be obvious in a 6 month old pup. So check and ask if he has been tested for deafness, and see how his eyesight affects him.
Many merles are perfectly healthy, it is usually the offspring of two merles aka 'double merles' that have serious issues, and no responsible breeder would do that mating. So do ask how he was bred, the colour of his parents etc.

Well the blue merle baby didnt work out. His owners are not sure now that they want to give him up. That is fine I think I have my hands full with these two. Peanut worked himself into such a frenzy he was sick the other day. Much better now thank goodness! I have been calling him Romeo! I did post a few pics in the picture albums section not sure how to put them here in the forum I need to make a signature :)

awww yeah I was a tad disappointed too but hopefully the owners will take the time and work with him and his potty training! He has been with them for 6 months. I just wish them happy puppy chi love! And good luck with getting a blue merle! I had no idea what they were until I was going to take this one!

Ok well I didnt think I was going to get the blue merle but I did! he is adorable and I am naming him Hershey Kisses... he is so adorable and he is scared to death of peanut and Prissy any suggestions He just runs away and only wants to be back in my arms. I have never had this situation so what should I do lol I dont want him terrified. Now he is nipping at peanut in a mean and agressive way. oh boy this is going to be interesting

How old is Peanut again? If this little guy is 6 months, he will take a while to settle in. Does Peanut respect the nipping and back off? It sounds as if Hershey is scared to death and is expressing himself! If you have a pen that he could feel safe in for a week or so, that might help.
