Default Given a chihuahua mix pup, but already have a chi pup!

Last Saturday, my bf was given a chihuahua mix pup at his job by two young girls. Girls said if he didn't take him, they were just gonna walk around the mall, asking random people if they wanted the dog. I told him that he can bring him home with us so we can feed him properly and find him a good home. So what do you think happened? My bf gets this idea that we should keep him. I said no because we JUST adopted a chihuahua pup a month ago. We argued & argued about it until he gave in yesterday. Maybe he gave in from exhaustion from arguing with me.

His sis came over yesterday, fell in love with the pup, and took him home. She has a kitten, but she called us last night after she got home to tell us that the kitty and pup were fine. After she left our apt tho, my bf was quiet the whole night. I feel so bad. Did I make the right choice? I liked the pup but our 9 week old pup is a handful just by himself.

I dont know if I personally could handle taking care of TWO puppies at once, especially if I wasnt prepared for it at all.
While on one hand I completely understand his feeling of sadness, the other hand tells me that it will be SO much easier for the two of you to take care of only one.

PLUS!!! Since its his sister... He can most likely visit the cute little bugger whenever he wants! Just think... PLAYDATES GALORE!!!!!
Just remind him of that, and hopefully he will feel better about it.

Yea I agree with Carleigh. Playdates. I can't handle more than one small dog at time. Even though Cricket is laid back, if I don't know the personality of the other dog or even how they would act together. I can't handle two dogs that fight or even play because sometimes its like fighting. And for some dogs feeding time. Enough said, but really, your bf's sister has the little guy, and so I don't see the harm in at least having a free babysitter on both sides now. You could babysit for her, and vise versa. I would be great I think.

Sounds as if things worked out, but I will say that two puppies was MUCH easier for me than just one.

Well if you truly weren't ready for another dog, then it was probably the right decision! However, I agree with Karen. Two dogs was easier than having just one for me. They entertain each other all of the time. Is the puppy you already have 9 weeks old right now?

Actually Perseus is 10 weeks. I kept thinking it was last week that he got his first shots, but it was actually two weeks ago. The pup that we rescued looked to be about 4 weeks because looks like he just got his teeth. The girls said he was a chihuahua, but he looked mix to me. He had the molera on his head, but his snout had a rise to it before reaching the nose; Like a dachshund.

I had an easier time with 2 puppies. Quinn was almost 8 months when I got Leah. Leah was 3 months when I got Claude. And Claude was 4 months when I got Eva. They have all played really well with each other.

On the mix it sounds like he could be a chi/dash mix.

i agree 2 is easier then one they entertain each other and play with each other. Its funny i also thought it was a women thing to want to take in an animal and argue about keeping it. I know i do it to my husband all the time he yells at me for looking at puppy ads and breeder sites. IM JUST LOOKIN!, LOL no matter what at least the puppy has a great home and thats all that matters! And the pup will be close to do play dates and puppy sitting.
