So I recently posted about a pup I was interested in getting and from all the advice on here have decided to wait and save up and get a pup from a proper breeder who conforms/breeds to show standards etc.
The thing is that after looking over several breeders websites and pictures in my state I was shocked to find about half breeding from dogs that I am surprised are 'acceptable' in the show ring.
(Small eyes, non apple heads, very long snout/muzzles etc. Things that even I can spot isn't right.)
I understand that some don't breed for showing but I am talking about the ones who state that they breed to conform to type (as well as temperament too obviously hehe) and that they only do so to improve the breed etc.
So my question is, are Australian standards much much much softer and less strict than American/English etc standards?
My idea of the ideal chi (with my very limited knowledge) would be nice round apple head, big eyes, large ears set right, normal scissor bite with nose/snout not too long (so no deer head types), that L shape from head to nose (is it called a stop?) etc etc.
With this in mind it makes it very hard to choose suitable breeders especially as the good ones don't have puppies very often!
Why is Australia so different?
