Smile Teach a dog to stack

Hello again,

just one question.
How do you table-train your dog for a dog show.

My chihuahuas is now 7 months old, walks perfectly next to me but I don't know how to teach him to "stack"

thanks,

P.S. Do I first need to teach him the command "stand/stack" on the ground and then just apply it when he is set on a table?

Teach 'stack' on a table, not the ground. Actually YOU pose him, and he is supposed to stay in that position. Get him used to being touched by people, as the 'judge' will inspect him from head to toe. Also since he's a male, the judge will also 'feel' his testicles. He can turn his head, but not try to bite etc. Take this slowly, and treat for good behavior alot. Judge will also lift his lips to look at his bite. Good luck.

Hey, thanks, the good thing is, when I put him on the table I can somehow handle him to stand still, however it is just for a few seconds *for sure he gets a treat when he does that . He does not bite, I can check his teeth etc. But I might ask a friend of mine, try that too. Once my friend tried to check his teeth on the sofa, he did not bite (would never) but he became shy and turned away with the whole body.
The show is in June in Saarbruecken, so there is still enough time to practice.
But in general he likes to be touched by people (when it is not his mouth), has always been people friendly and when he was very young he always ran to them in order to be petted.

Thanks a lot !

I just stand mine on a table for a few seconds at first several times a day and they get used to it then progress to checking teeth etc and building up the time they are standing there for

I think like anything it's all about practice. Prince was shown early on (but he turned out to be very small). I can still get him to do his pretty little show stand.

Don't forget to try him on different surfaces/ heights too just so he gets used to it. It took my girl about 2 weeks to go from cowering on a table to standing (nearly) nicely. Maybe ring craft classes might help too? They have for us

Hey thanks I will try that out.
Unfortunately there are no ring classes around my area, already checked on the internet.

I always put him on my table, hold a treat in front of his nose, put him in position and say |stack is that correct?

thanks
