Default Opinions on conformation, please & thank you :)

Hi everyone

I recently came across an ad that, safe to say, more than peeked my interest. I have been wanting to get into showing Chi's.

Cutting to the chase - Prada was suppose to be my CH sired, chocolate blue show prospect. Somewhere between 7-10 weeks her nose shot out like pinnochio! She is also looking to be a very petite little girl, even though she was the largest out of three sisters.

I recently came across an ad for a chocolate blue, long coat male. He is 9 days younger than Prada, with a much more typier head on him.

I am looking for honest opinions on his potential in the ring, as I'm really not looking for just another 'pet'. (Hope that came across the way I meant it to!)

here are his pics. I know the lighting and angles she could manage on him are terrible - so bare with them! He is 6.5 months. The cell phone pics are from tonight.

It's very difficult to evaluate a puppy with these types of pictures as they don't show the structure of the puppy well. What you need is stacked pictures from the side, front, and rear, and preferrably one or two of him free standing on the floor. I know you have two of him on the table but hopefully they are not showing the dog at his natural stance. Movement is also gonna play a huge role, so a video of him going around for side gait, and coming towards go and going away to show front and rear, all need to be evaluated.

Good luck in your search. It's particularly difficult when wanting a specific color.

if your looking for a puppy to show you would be better off talking to a few local show breeders than looking at ads online, especially since you are new to showing and don't know what your looking for and a show breeder could mentor you and give you tips about showing.

Thanks Lisa! Ill ask her politely if she could have a friend help her stack him and take pics. I know it was difficult for her trying to manage him and the camera herself. I'll bug her for a video of him, too.

Unfortunately, I do not know any local chihuahua show breeders. Prada's breeder is more than a 4 hours drive from me, and rarely, if ever, has puppies as she's more into Bullmastiffs.

I have professional handlers I would be working with for training and distant shows, but that's as far as it goes at the moment.

Of course, not trying to make excuses! As pointed out, I'm also a little stubborn when it comes to colour. A girl likes what she likes, and I don't mind waiting for the right one, where ever they may be.

I had to get over the colour thing when I first started looking for a show puppy. I did *not* want another white or light coloured dog hahaha and guess what I got? Not saying you have to compromise, just saying that colour I learned is the least important factor when choosing a dog. I got told that over and over.

I hope you find what you're looking for, regardless

Hopefully this show breeder is more "sane" than one I worked with who pretty much flipped out when I asked for decent pictures and told me I was calling him a liar ???

He looks a little leggy to me, but it could just be the angles. Instead of asking for more pictures of the baby, (which are hard to evaluate as puppies change so much!) ask for good stacked pics of mom and dad and grandparents if they have them!

Is this a breeder who shows? Or is she just saying that this LOOKS like a show potential puppy and his pedigree has several champions in it? You want to see champions up front in the pedigree, not 4 generations back, for example. I'd want a show potential puppy to be champion sired at the minimum and I'd hope the mom was finished as well. Grandparents would be good too. If they weren't shown for whatever reason, I'd stlll want to see good pics of each of them as they are the best predictor of what the puppy will turn out to be.

Good luck!

Haha, in sure I'll have to get over it sooner than later, as well!!

So far she seems 'sane' :P - lucky me! She said shell take some footage of him today and send it to me. She's been pretty good about my million and one questions. Just when you think there's nothing more to ask, there's 10 more questions in the next email!

Luckily for me he was just posted so there hasn't been an overwhelming response to him yet. His breeder says she appreciates the fact that I'm interested in more than a cute face.

If I do take him, she'll be ground shipping him from the states with a transporter she uses, right to my door! She said she doesn't like air travel as they run the risk of becoming hypoglycemic.

So far she seems to be pretty genuine, and is respectful that I want this to be the perfect match.
