Critique Winston please!

Hi all you show people!

Just for fun and my continued Chihuahua education (coz i've signed an ironclad neuter contract) would some of you please critique my Winston for me. Two of his littermates are being shown by his breeder so I would just be interested in all your opinions on why she would have not seen Winnie as a show prospect. To me he's the cutest thing I've ever seen and nothing can change that opinion so please critique away!

I apologise for the bad photos, he's going through that hyper stage where if he's not asleep he's going at 100 MPH. FYI he is about 3.5lb and he's 5 months old next week.

I know his top line is a bit all over the place in these pics. It was pretty straight in this one taken at about 10 weeks. will it straighten back up as he matures?

Sarah, I know nothing about nothing, but I don't think he has a problem with his top line now. I think if you had someone else to take the pics and you could hold his head in the same position the person held it in in the 10 week old pic and you held his back side and front and back legs in the same width apart as in the pics his top line would be the same. Just my opinion.

Could be that. Craig wasn't there to take the pics while I held him so I just tried to take as many shots as I could in the hope of getting a couple of decent ones.

I have never shown a chi, so i do not know all the requirements. His topline could be off because of the way he is standing, but it looks that he may be a little high up in the rear.
Try looking over the standard for your registry and compare him to it point by point. When i first started showing thats what i would do until i knew it by heart lol

Well, though I have NO idea about show chis, I would say it looks like he is a very nice chi, the topline isn't off IMO. I guess you could say by looking at pictures of show chihuahuas alone, I would say he looks pretty close to the standards. :)

his topline in the first few photos is pretty bad, you need a photo of him standing on the floor and standing 4 square, i wouldn't post any photos that are less than perfect for people to critique. he is also quite long in the body.

His Topline is pretty badly roached when he's free standing, what's his mouth like because he looks a bit pouty which can be a sign that he hasn't got a very good mouth. I agree with Louise that he looks quite long in the back, if anything they normally look leggy at this age.
His stifles look quite straight in the stacked pictures of him too unfortunately.

He has a lovely neck, head should mature but for a breeder to get two show prospects out a litter and handsome pet that's typey but not show quality is good.

My boy is the same age. He looks horrific ATM so they are at that gangly age. I am very particular about what pictures I post of him because of prying eyes ;)

Thanks for that, now you've said it he is a bit pouty but I actually love that about him, I think it's really cute. I was really interested to pick out the differences between him and his brother because to my untrained eyes they look so similar but now you've picked out a few things I can see where they vary, especially in length. I think Winnie is much cuter of course but since his brother has won about 20 titles at this stage I'm obviously biased!

His topline went from straight to all over the place pretty much overnight so I'm holding out hope that it will fix its self, my girl was very roached for a while but she's levelled out a lot now that she's almost a year old. He is quite gangly looking at the moment but since he's just a very cute pet I don't mind if people see all his flaws.
