Default What's your take on this

I am new here and have 2 brothers who will be 7 weeks on Monday. The vet advised we crate/pen them separately to prevent any codependency. At first I was ready to do it then it broke my heart to actually do it... Needless to say we haven't done that. My issue is with my blonde puppy Outlaw. He's an instigator and growls at his brother when they play and now today he growled at me when I interrupted their play fight.

I don't want him to grow up into a growly bully and am really wondering if separate pens would work. How do you guys feel about this issue? Anyone who has raised siblings I need advice. I want to do right by them and have them grow into happy healthy dogs. There is an obedience class in town but that isn't until July and I'm strongly considering getting the boys into that. Just feeling a bit overwhelmed. Oh I had a little theory that outlaw isn't getting enough sleep and wakes up grumpy because vader is always moving around in his sleep. Is that possible? If it is maybe separation would be beneficial. Oh also if you separate them is it only for sleep or??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

Personally I think that if you are raising pups to be dogs for a purpose like therapy dogs or show dogs (or even pets in my opinion) then siblings are difficult. They should be separated and have their own crates as well as their own training time, play time, walk time, etc each day. You want them to learn to work with you and for you to be the most important thing in their universe and with siblings that is not going to happen if you allow them to stay together. That is one of the reasons a lot of breeders (myself included) will not allow anyone to purchase more than one puppy, it's just super hard to raise two, well adjusted puppies.

I forgot to add that I would separate them at night and any time they are crated or penned as well as for their training and some interacting with you. They can have some play time together but not all day.

thanks for advice. They play together and separate. We only take one outside at a time. We do give them individual time with each person in household but they do sleep together at night. I will work on getting separate areas for night time. I really appreciate your help... I didn't plan on 2 puppies but here we are and I want them well adjusted. So time to do what's best for them
