Default Potty training issue

I have a neutered male chi that is 6 months old. I had so much trouble trying to potty train him when he was little. It has started getting better, however I still can't get him to stop going in the crate completely. My other chi had one accident in the crate at 6 mos and has never had another. I have tried smaller crates and he doesn't care, he will go and lay in it. It seems he can't/or won't hold it any more than a couple hours. The pooping has gotten better, now he only does it if I don't wake up precisely at 6am. However he is still peeing in there and I don't know what else to do.

Jaxx's potty training clicked around 8 months totally. I had Jaxx's crate in our bedroom so he would wake me if he had to go out. I set an alarm for 3 am and took him out until he could hold it through the night.
Are you cleaning any areas where he has accidents with an enzymatic cleaner. I highly recommend Natures Miracle. Soap and water doesn't take the scent away and you need an enzymatic cleaner to get rid of the scent.
Since he is going in his crate my biggest suggestion would be to take him on a long walk before putting in his crate so he is tired but also has plenty of time to relieve himself.
Putting Jaxx on a feeding schedule helped greatly with potty training. If you know when he eats you can judge when he has to go potty.
Good luck!
