Exclamation Won't walk with harness !!

hi,
My Chihuahua puppy (almost 3 months) hates her harness. Sometimes I pull her a little but I don't want to drag her, obviously. I did try treats before hand. She's so stubborn, and she just wants to go her own way. I don't know how to communicate to her that we need to walk and not sunbathe and pick at leaves (she does get a chance to do that at home). i take her to work with me, she sleeps in the desk drawer. I'm able to take her outside a lot but she doesn't get to walk because of the harness problem. We both just stand around! (or I have to pick her up)

thanks,
Fel (south africa)

My puppy does that too. So i squat down to her level at a distance away, and encourage her to come forward.

Oh my Lilo was the most stubborn puppy ever when it comes to walking on the leash so I can relate. lol She's still difficult even at 8 months old, but much much better than she used to be. Just keep at it, use treats as bait to encourage her to walk (in my experience, they have to be really enticing treats like pieces of meat or cheese, whatever your chi goes crazy for) and praise her a lot when she does walk. Also have you tried leaving the harness and leash on in the house so she can get used to it? I think with time and patience, she'll get there. My previous chi Coco was resistant to walking on the leash too at that age, but she warmed up to it after a while and ended up crazy about walks.

Just keep trying! Try leaving the harness on during the day more so she gets used to it more. She's still very young and everything is still so new keeping up with treats and praise when she wearing it and takes any step(s) is the right idea, it's just going to take time and patience

It could be the type of harness used too which one are u using? Some dogs prefer to be walked in the comfy vest type ones rather than the ones that are like a huge leash material

Yes, it is that leash type harness. I imagine it must be quite irritating. It feels plasticky too ... i will search around for a better one.
thanks!
