Default running off

So my babies have been coming to me outside with no problems. My Ava 2x has ran off looked at me kept going, across the road and I had to go get her. I just put her in the crate, b/c I was angry and scared and I did not want her to know it take it out on her. Putting her in the crate may not be the right thing. EVERYtime they go out, come in I give them treats, how do I handle this when she does it. Right now I am taking them out on leash I can't risk them getting hit, but they HATE the leash, they role, pull etc...

Help!

Could you buy a couple of x pens and put them together? I have 2 for mine. They used to run around in it, but now like to just lie there and watch the world go by. We have hawks, and coyotes, and I sit outside with them, just in case.

Great idea, I will start looking for one, but I worry about training.....I am house training and so I am taking them to the same spot to pee and it is close to the house. I guess it would effect it if I place it where they go. I have a fenced in back yard my other chi uses, I may just take them back there. It was easier to take them in front, but I will rethink it.

If you have a safe fenced in back yard that they can't escape, then I would definitely take them there instead. Personally I wouldn't take the risk of letting them off leash at the front of the house or anywhere where there are roads nearby that they could get to. Even with the most well trained dogs it only takes one time for them not to listen and run off. My boyfriend didn't listen to me and let Rocky off the leash in a small park near a road (I wasn't there!) and even though he had never run off/always listened, that one time he ran away and was run over. He miraculously survived with no injuries, but we were very lucky about that.

We ended up fencing our whole garden and even went to the trouble of putting like mesh chicken wire stuck to the back of the fence incase Pablo managed to slip out any little holes! We've got a new gate too he can't get out of, he once though before we had the gate we used to use a bit of huge wood to block the path and he managed to jump over one day right on to a road and to play on the grassy bit that seperates the small road to the main road which carsbdo about 70 on. I've never been so scared in my whole life! He was lucky. But I'd either take them out in the back or a play pen don't take the chance! Or I would leash train them Pablo hated it at first but now he loves it and is always desperate to go for a walk

Are you just taking them out for leisure time? Or potty time? For potty time I think they should be leashed up and walked. Then maybe use then pen for leisure time. I wouldn't take the chance at having them off leash out there and running off and possibly something happening.

thanks ladies!

Only time they go out is potty. or if I need to check on chickens out back, bc of heat I dont let them stay out. I worry about them getting to hot. They hate the leash, but I am working on that with them. This morning we used the fenced in backyard and they followed me back in when called. Also I shake the treat box they run at sound. The front has too many distractions. I just want to keep them safe

I think the fenced in back yard is ideal. Can't get out, and if you have treats with you they will come in. Can you have a kiddie pool out there? If they get too hot, they can get in! I take it you stay out there with them?
