Default Trouble in the pack

Hi, Mickey and Piper have been getting along really well with our "guest" chi. They all seem to love being together. However, yesterday I gave them each a trach and Mickey and Piper both became really overprotective and growled much more than I have ever heard them growl. The guest, Omari, is very submissive and wouldn't ever steal their treat. Should I stop this? What's the best way? Just take the treat away when they growl, or is there a better response? Thanks for the great advice I'll know you'll give me.

I would not give 3 dogs a trachea to chew on without them being separated. Period. It is too much for resident dogs to have a guest chewing on a treat, even if they have one too. I have 3 dogs, and if I give them treats they all head off to their own places. I am always there, in case. Sometimes, after they have chewed a chewie, they want to switch! I usually take them away, and give them again a day or two later.

I agree with Susan, give them their own space and they won't feel threatened. Try only giving the chews when they are in individual crates.
The growling isn't really an issue in itself, it is just saying 'this yummy treat is mine, keep away!'

Given that the third pup is a guest and not part of the pack, I'd probably separate them when giving out treats as well. If it were a permanent member of the pack I would say let them sort out their issues while being supervised so you can break it up if it gets too serious, but if Omari is just a temporary short-term addition it's better not to stress everyone out (especially if the poor guy is already out of sorts being away from his home and pack, and timid anyway). So I'd separate them for treat time going forward

I guess I should have added that there's absolutely no danger of them hurting each other. They all eat together in the same room and respect each other. I think they have already "packed" if I'm reading their dog languages and behavior. It's just they're all so good natured the rest of the time. I don't want to allow any bad manners.
