Default He won't learn "down"

He knows sit, stay, no.

I've been trying to train him a "down", & am not having as much luck.

Any ideas?

I have taught 2 of my boys down. But I haven't been able to successfully teach Jojo. He did it a couple of times and it was by me leaving the treat on the floor not allowing him to eat it. And eventually he laid down after about 5 minutes.
Jojo is now 3 years old and I feel like I have failed him and probably will never learn down on command.
I will like to read other people tips and advice.

I taught all me dogs the down command the treat method. Get them to sit, and hold a really tiny piece of good tasting stuff in your hand. With the hand holding the treat in front of their nose, slowly put it down on the floor in front of the dog. He should 'follow' the treat and lie down. If he gets up, the treat goes away, and you start over. Make sure the que 'down' is given after he gets the idea. The other way for a dog that doesn't 'get it' this way is to sit on the floor and one leg is bent a little. Get the yummy treat, and guide him 'through' the 'tent' of your leg. Slowly make the tent smaller and smaller until he has to crawl through. As soon as him tummy hits the floor, praise like mad. Good luck.

I had to use the method of making Gobo crawl under my knees to teach him "down". It worked pretty quickly. He is a quick learner! He just wasn't paying enough attention to where his rear end was without going through the "tunnel". You can use one or both knees, depending on what is comfortable for you.

Hunley wouldn't follow the treat to the floor, he would just look at me wondering why I wasn't giving him the treat. What I did was make him sit, then pull his front legs gently out so he'd lay down, at the same time repeating down. After about two days, he got the idea. Give it a try, might work.

Progress, but he now responds to "down", by going onto his back for a belly rub

Lol that's adorable
I haven't tried anything with Jojo but I'm considering the "tent" method
What did you try?
