Default Marking territory or just small bladder

My 12 weeks old male chi has a problem with piddling inside house. I am confused because he is crated during the day and can hold his urine all day but when we are at home with him we have to take him out like every 30 min or else he will weewee inside. Suggestions??

When you are gone and he's all alone in his crate, he is most likely sleeping,
therefore holding his bladder. But once you are home, there is excitement, food,
playtime, etc, which makes him want to urinate more often. He's just a young
pup still, it's normal that he has to go out often, sure he can technically hold it
for a couple of hours, but it's normal that after playing, eating, sleeping, he has
to go right away. Give it time, slowly but surely he'll be able to hold it longer and
longer. Some pups that age do hold it longer, for 3 hours or so, if you want to
help train his bladder try taking him for longer walks so he has time to urinate
more than once. Also I'm not sure if you are doing it already, but scheduled
feedings help tremendously with potty training, as for water it should be
available at all times, which I'm sure you already know.

I can't imagine a 12 week old puppy 'holding it for all day'. I would have a large crate/ or playpen so he doesn't have too! This makes me feel uncomfortable just reading about it!

Maybe, if you're not already, put a puppy pee pad in his crate. Then he can go when you're not there and then possibly reduce him going when out of his crate.
