Default Diabetic sore cracked heels

I don't know how many other people there are on here with diabeties,
My mum was type 1 from childhood, My gran was type 1, I have have been type 2 for a year now,
I don't know if anyone else suffers with cracked heels, I get them real bad and sometimes they are so sore,
I am overweight, But I walk everyday, I do two walks, Take pickle out in the afternoon, for at least half a hour to a hour walk, Then in the evening I do the same with winnie,
Last year when i was diagonised i am embrassed to admit I weighed in at a massive 26 stone, Yes I know one hell of a weight and not wanting to use excuses but I was a battered wife for 14 years by my ex husband! I am now in a stable and loving relationship!
I am now down to 22 stone, That means in the last year through eating helathy and walking daily I have lost 4 stones,
I know That I am still fat! I am hoping to lose more weight as time goes on! I have seen pictures of some of you! And youa re all thin! I could never put my photo up as I am fat!
I am asking does anyone know of any thing that can help with sore heels?

don't laugh, but, the only thing that softens mine and soothes them is to soak in
a dishpan of 3 parts warm water to 1 part milk.

Never thought of that one, will give that a go! I wish I had lost more weight! I will be glad when I am thinner! i am getting there slowly!

Thank you! I am glad to know that I am not the only one struggling! I find having pickle and winnie hekps with the weight loss as they like their daily walks!
And once I get Sox I will be by beach's so will go walking on beach's at least once a day and hopefully the sea air will help! Can't wait to collect Sox!

Try slavering on Vaseline before bed, then put on a pair of socks overnight. My sister swears by this method. She goes barefoot all summer and her feet dry out and crack. She says by doing this, she gets soft, supple heels. I am not sure how much a stone is, but I have lost 119 pounds by following the adkins diet. It really works. I still have a ways to go, but have a good start. lol

EDIT, ok I found out how much a stone is. I lost 8.5 stone.

I don't know if you have bag balm over there, but it is a thick paste you put on cow udders. You can find it in feed stores where they sell cattle supplies. It has lots of lanolin and good oils in it. You can slather it on before bed (very greasy) and put on socks and in the morning, your heels will be more supple.

Be sure and keep a close eye on your legs and feet since diabetes often goes hand in hand with peripheral vascular disease and sores are very hard to heal. Be careful when you trim your toenails too and trim them straight across and not too short so they don't get ingrown or infected. Always wear good, supportive shoes when you are walking.

This is the whole reason I have to wear socks and shoes, no sandles or flipflops, i got a infection in my big toe last year took 3 weeks to heal! Somehow managed to cut my toe nail wrong!
I can't have atkins diet as it is based on carb's, And carbs are like giving a diabetic a bag of sugar! That is the stupid thing I eat rice I am asleep for 1 or so, Because rice and potatoes contain high level carbs in them!
Just have to keep on with salads and light meals! I hope to lose alot more weight as the summer days get here!
