Default ~The Water Diet~

Hey!

Have any of you tried the water diet for health reasons?
Water diet/fast, as in only water, nothing but water, no food or other drinks.
My longest was only 5 days, I want to try for longer. A friend of mine does it
periodically to help treat her severe eczema, it does wonders! Also heard
great things about it helping folks with diabetes. So even though my
illness has no cure, I thought perhaps this diet can at least help eliminate
certain small annoyances that come with, such as migraines, vomiting, etc.

If you tried it, let me know how you survived past day 5!!! lol

Isn't that dangerous?

I could never do that! I can't even skip breakfast without almost passing out.

I am a nurse, this does not sound like a healthy idea at all. Your body needs nutrients or it starts breaking itself down.

I wouldn't skip food, but drinking enough water everyday still has many benefits. Do you normally drink enough water?

I must be blunt. It's a horrible idea. There is absolutely no science behind it.

Any 'benefits' described by people can only be coincidental or antecdotal
Sure if someone has a horrible diet, and suddenly stops eating crap, some of their
'symptoms' may change, but it's not because they starve themselves.

If you desire to cleanse your body....there are other more heathy options, the first being change your diet to only real, fresh, unprocessed foods,
AND drink lots of water, and exercise. There is nothing that will make you feel better more quickly. Eat a simply, nutrient dense diet, and
sweat, and your body will change instantly.

Another option, if you feel you need to go the fasting route is juice fasting. You drink homemade fruit and vegetable juices only.
That is certainly a much more practical option.

Especially for someone with chronic health issues, denying yourself all
nutrition is the a very very bad idea. Very very very very bad idea.

Please reconsider your options !

I ONLY eat healthy, and I do not drink anything but water, ever. Due to my
bladder disease I am not allowed most foods and drinks. My diet can not get
any healthier, believe me. Water fasting if done correctly is extremely
beneficial to our body, it is detoxifying and cleansing. Many people do it for
religious reasons, health or just to loose weight. This existed since begging of
time, I am not the first to think of this. It was actually a recommendation
from my Doctor. There are ways to ease into it, it is not done overnight.

"There are many benefits to fasting. It is a natural human function to fast
dating back thousands of years. We are meant to fast when we are sick. This
is why we don't have an appetite when we are feeling under the weather.
Everyday we use such a great amount of our energy just for digestion, and if
you eat a great deal of meat products digestion is even more taxing on your
body. One reason we feel good in the mornings is because we havenít eaten
anything in several hours.

When you fast your digestive system is resting, which will let your body heal
other parts of the body that have not gotten a lot of attention from our
immune systems. Some may think that you will go into starvation mode and
your body will shut off burning less fat. This simply is not the case. Your body
first will burn off the stored sugars. Then it will focus on all the stored
damaged tissue land toxins lurking in the body. Then it will go to fat."

I honestly did not think I'd have to justify my actions, I understand that if people
never heard of it, it could sound shocking, but it really isn't bad at all. Of course
there will always be silly people who fast and then return to pizza, this is not healthy.
It must be eased into, and done carefully and properly. There is plenty of information
available online on how to fast the right way, or one can always speak with their Doctor.

I agree that fasting for a short time does have benefits but one probably shouldn't fast for more than a few days. I don't think you have to justify your actions to anyone - if you have researched it along with other possible options, are under the supervision of a trustworthy doctor and believe 100% that this is something that could benefit you I would try it - just don't feel guilty if it doesn't work or if you can't do it for as long as someone else can. Good luck with it!

Absolutely. That is exactly it, I've been through the surgeries, treatments,
narcotics, intravesical therapy, etc, all has failed and I learned to accept the
fact that there is no cure, but it would be nice to try and see if this fasting
can help a bit with the migraines, vomiting and a couple other problems I
rather not mention. At first I did several short 1 day fasts, then 3 days, and
eventually now 5. I read some people do the 40 days, but my personal goal
for now is a week. If eventually I can do 10 days, than that would be great. I
don't plan on ever doing 40 days though, I'm not mentally prepared for
something that extreme.

Thanks for wishing me luck! I need it especially when smelling all the good food hubby cooks! lol
