Default Anyone gluten free??

I'm thinkin about going gluten free to help my bladder disease I've been reqding tons of books on my newly diagnosed interstitial cystitis I live in constant extreme pelvic/bladder pain and I cannot afford the medication one is $200 a month another is $400 so I've been reading these studies that prove that gluten free has healed people and cured them of all pain and chronic inflammation of the bladder. But I'm extremely terrified to go gluten free I have never in my entire life had to watch what I eat I eat a lot of pasta like pasta is basically all I eat lol but the major change In my diet to get better I can barely walk most days! I know there are tons of alternatives but there's sooo much to give up and with my disease it has its own special diet on top of it I have to eat an alkaline diet and avoid almost everything literally my food selection is slim pickings lol

How hard is it and what are some good books at getting started going GF?

I have a gluten intolerance and have been gluten free for over two years. I never read any books just did a lot of research on line. It's definitely helped me in many ways since I changed.
Udis is the bread I eat now. Brown rice pasta is really good! It's not "fun" being GF but its definitely worth it if it helps you!

Why are you paying for meds? What about health care?

The only IC meds that weren't covered for me were the intravesical treatments.

And as for food, you do have choices, just have to be creative. It's basically a
healthier way of living, all junk cut out, plus a few other things, which we've
talked about before. If you need meal ideas, just let me know.

I can't believe how bad gluten is! People that had asthma and stopped eating gluten did not have asthma anymore seems like poison after reading all this about gluten!

What a pain! That's unbelievable.

I can honestly tell you though, diet does help. But you have to stick to it, be
very strict, no exceptions to the rule. Mornings I just have oatmeal(plain kind,
no sugar, no flavors, otherwise will irritate bladder). Then for lunch and dinner
I have a small piece of fish or chicken with a lot of veggies(raw or steamed),
once in a while a little cheese, eggs, brown rice or beans. No spices, no sugar,
no salt. I drink only water, and once a week a green tea. No junk EVER. No
juice or fruit, far too acid. I have bleeding scars all over my bladder, can you
imagine the feeling of acid over bleeding wounds?! If you are self disciplined
then the elimination diet will help ease your symptoms. For me it is literally
the difference between lying in bed screaming from pain, unable to close my
legs or walk to the bathroom...to being able to grind my teeth but live a little.
I've been ill for 8 years, and I have the most extreme case the surgeons and
urologists around here have seen, ALL drugs, even the strongest narcotics
and all treatments have failed, so if the life changing diet helps me, imagine
what it will do for you. You are what you eat, wrong foods will eventually
make even the healthiest person ill, it always catches up to you. Make the
changes NOW, and hopefully it'll help your IC from progressing. I wish you well.

I might order a gluten free book see if I can make it work I can sill have rice and stuff just not breads and pitas and pastas made with wheat there are tons of alternatives tho.

I'm just laying here in bed screaming inside from the pain all I had for dinner was pasta with a plain Alfredo sauce and water. I pee lay down get up pee again lay down get up pee again lol ahhh why are we cursed!

I know right now you are pi**ed off to put it nicely, but try to think
optimistically. It's not a curse, everything happens for a reason. It's
far from ideal, but many go through worse and still manage to come
out. It took me literally years to finally understand and believe that
my life does not have to be over. Yes it is extremely limited, but it
is still there...nothing is over until it's over. You must not think of this
disease as the end, you must think of it as a "passage" in life, this is
what helps me deal. I'm going through a difficult passage, but who
knows what the future will bring. You should try yoga and meditation
techniques, they can be very helpful. The worse thing you can do
right now is feel sorry for yourself. I know it's easier said than done,
believe me, but you have to try to have an optimistic outlook. Don't
stop looking for answers and educating yourself. And try(please for
me) try to not stress or cry, both those things make IC soooo much
worse. Reading, meditating, playing with pups, taking a bath, all of
those things are good...crying and stressing are bad. Ok?! Good,
deal. Hope you get some rest tonight. It's 2am here, I'm getting up
at 4am, so I have to let you go. Big hugs and please remember you
are not alone, I'm right here kicking IC's butt with you!
