Have any of you tried this app?
I downloaded it free about 3 weeks ago onto my iPhone - it's brilliant!!
I have never in my life dieted, I've been lucky that I didn't need to, but with middle age I've put on a few pounds particularly around the middle - so I decided I'd like to lose about 8 lbs. I am not one for fads, food replacement stuff etc - I'm always a common sense type of person - and this to me is common sense!!
What I love about this is that it is so simple to use - it's a calorie counter - I am trying to keep to about 1200 calories a day.
The app allows you to search for foods or bar scan foods - everything I have scanned has been in there which makes it really, really easy.
You enter your calories for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snacks - it calculates all the way and you also enter if you have done any excercise walks etc which then gives you extra calories for the day. You can eat the extra calories if you want but I have found it easy to stick to just the 1200 calories a day and don't really need to eat the extra calories I earn by excercise.
I haven't hugely changed my eating habits apart from not snacking on junk, and cutting out daft high calorie meals and exchanging them for something not so high calorie - ie with my porridge each morning I had regular milk but by cutting to low fat milk I save a ton of calories and fat
I discovered that the brand of soda bread I use is 150 cals for 1 slice whereas another bread brown seeded which I also like is only 75 cals - easy switch
The app really educates you on what foods are- as I said before I have never studied foods or calories or diets - but you really learn which foods are the calorie laden ones- and then you go yikes - one
slice of Domino's pizza is about 300 calories - one slice!! instead of that I could have a few x y or z's
It also shows you at the end of the day - how much of your daily allowance of iron, carbohydrates, cholesterol, vitamin a c d etc etc you have had, so I saw I was a bit low on eating iron a few days in a row and decided to get in a few more iron rich meals.
I have no doubt that I am now more educated about food than I have ever been in my life - and will always now be a lot more conscious of the food I eat.
I like that I don't have to follow certain food recipes etc - you just eat your own foods all the time being conscious of the calories you are consuming and if you're going a bit over - go and get a walk in - excercise allows you extra calories on top of you 1200 or whatever calorie amount you are on.
In 3 weeks I have lost 5 lbs - slowly but surely, which is the best way to lose weight - plus I know it's an actual life style change, - it's about 6 years since I weighed this weight
when I reach my target weight I then find out how many calories a day to eat to maintain that weight -and having spent those weeks learning it will be easy to always be aware of my calories from then on.
Try it - it's free!!
