Default International mailing questions.......?

I want to send 2 of my friends a small Christmas gift and they live in Canada & England. I don't know the 'mailing rules', if there are any and also if there are things in the US and are hard to get in Canada/England... Are things like Ghirardelli chocolates/hot cocoa available and easy to get?? ... I know I see doggie posts here sometimes "I wish I could get that here in ...." but don't know if that also applies to human stuff... does it take a long time to get to those countries from US??

can someone help a international mailing newbie??

What about sending from Amazon to UK or Canada ? if you can get it ? I sent to US from UK and it took weeks to arrive .Never heard of the chocolate or cocoa here.

sometimes it is not allowed to send any kind of food into another country . you have to fill out a customs form and what I always do is try to underestimate the value so that the person that is receiving it wont have to pay tax.
it really depends on how long it will take. there is no real knowing. its funny cause, I sent to Sherri who lives in Canada and it only took 5 days, but for some reason , it has taken much longer for Krystal to receive a package.
I sent to Alula in France and that didn't even take 5 days I think.
but you never know how long something may take. it could get stuck in customs.

There are a lot of restrictions for food crossing the border and unfortunately they make it really hard to know what is and isn't allowed. I think that in general, processed and packaged foods are okay as long as they don't contain meat. So chocolates and hot cocoa should be fine! If you were trying to send something like loose tea or dried fruit, that might be a problem.

Our mail system can be super slow. Usually when I ship to the states, it's usually quick. I think it also depends on where the person lives and how many stops it has to make first. I shipped something to the UK in the same amount of time that I shipped something to Sherri in Ontario, on the other side of the country.

I've heard of that brand of chocolates but I'm not sure if I've seen them locally. Hope that helps!

Elaine, I was thinking about it and Sherri is just northwest of you. That's probably why she gets packages sooner and it takes me forever to get things from you since I'm on the West coast.

I mail internationally very regularly. French post is atrocious but Elaine always manages to get stuff with me in 4 or 5 days, but things from the UK take 2 weeks to get to me! Go figure.

I know there are issues with posting Aerosols and Nail polish. Fresh produce can also be a problem, but chocolate is fine

WOW...no clear answer.... why do 'they' make it so confusing...... *sigh*.... I guess I'll just get them a gift card and they can pick out what they want... I hate gift cards but probably easiest way for International *sigh*
