My "almost July 4th" granddaughter!
I just wanted to let you all know I'm a grandmom again!! This time has really been tough! My DIL's blood pressure went up at 27 weeks, and she spent the night in the hospital overnight. She came home to rest and being monitored. When she went to the high risk doctor two weeks later they put her in our Women's and Children's Hospital here, which specializes in high-risk pregnancies, and told her she would not leave until she gave birth--she had preeclampsia. On July 3rd, she took a turn for the worse and her liver enzymes more than doubled and her platelet count went down to 24. They had no choice but to do a C-Section and take the baby at 29 weeks and 5 days. Her name is Dakota and she weighed 2 lbs 4 oz and was 13 and 3/4 in long. Other than being extremely tiny, she is doing fantastic!!! By this point she has gained up to 2 lbs 12.9 oz today. She is off of all breathing help--which has been minimal all along, and within a few days she should be beginning to try bottle feeding. Then it will be a matter of when she will reach 4 1/2 lbs and be able to maintain her weight outside of her isolette. Needless to say, I have practically been living at the hospital for the past month, but I am thrilled with our new little girl!! I have mentioned before her dad is a twin and he was born at 30 weeks and was 3lbs 4 oz. I told him when she gets old enough to understand all this, she's gonna tell him she was 2 days "more preemie" and 1 lb lighter! So far she's taking after her dad! lol
I just wanted to share our wonderful--but scary--news!!
Life is better because I have a friend like you.
