Default A chi related wish I have.

I wish there was a place to actually get some good medical information, and not the standard "Go see your Vet".

You have to think a bit about the what ifs, and how nice it is to know a bit about emergency care.
What if it was a huge event like an earth quake and there are no vets to go to?
What if you are way out 500 miles deep in the Alaska out back and the closest vet is that 500 plus miles away. It could be a long slow walk since the weather is preventing planes to pick you up or the batteries in your emergency radio just went out.

Anyway for pet owners that have the ability to try to deal with such things there should be either classes to take or information availability online.

Sometimes, IF the dog has symptoms you can google the problem and get some ideas. You'd have to read who the person/s that answer are good vets though. Thankfully, most of us have vets near by. People that are in remote areas usually have little planes to get into urban areas. (at least on TV they do!)

I do a lot with holistic. My vet is holistic and one of my friends owns a holistic pet store. I learn as I go. On Facebook there are a lot of holistic groups too. Here are a few of my favorite online resources:

I see your point. As Susan said I look up symptoms online but I just don't believe everything I read. At least it puts my mind a bit at ease until I can get to a vet. With me it isn't location as the vet is less than 5 minutes away but due to life/family their isn't always time to run every time I think something is wrong.

I used web-dmv when our puppy came down with strange paralysis. I entered the symptoms and it was spot on. My holistic vet was stumped (and nearly killed her). Fortunately, my vet's partner sent us to a world class neurologist who quickly figured it out and saved her life. (Today she has special needs, but is able to enjoy life and do normal things.) I would use web-dmv again and I believe for a fee you can consult with a real vet (not just the computer).

I guess what I'm asking for is to compact years of unrelated college courses into a month of training. I'm not a youngster but a very technical type person, and would just like to know more how to. I don't want to be helpless in an emergency. I have saved a small kitten that had a blocked airway from a piece of food, and done the same for the chi. Its still scary though if it wouldn't unblock. Sorry to rant.
